Evil may have its hour, but God will have His day. This is one of the meanings enshrined in the story of Christ. Of His earthly suffering and death – and of His resurrection, and the truth that sooner or later, yet inevitably, evil will retreat, and life will triumph. That is what we have wanted for all 1,152 days. We are united in this. Every day – and especially today, when Ukrainians of all Christian denominations celebrate Easter on the same date. Together. We fight for Ukraine together. And we pray for Ukraine together. May evil’s hour end. May the day of life arrive. The day of peace. The day of Ukraine. The day that lasts for centuries. And we will be able to come together again. At one table. On a peaceful Easter. May all this come true. May God help us in this. May there be peace. May there be Ukraine. Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

Five (of the many) reasons to believe in the resurrection of Jesus: 1. The empty tomb. 2. Appearances of Jesus. 3. Transformed disciples. 4. Impact on history. 5. Experience of billions. #HappyEaster  #HeIsRisen #JesusIsAlive

Jesus wasn't crucified for performing miracles or preaching sermons. He was crucified for refusing to fall in line with the politics of his day. He would not align w/ the Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, Zealots, or the Roman Empire. He started a movement that disrupted everything!

In saying that Christians are to love beyond their families––even our enemies––Jesus isn’t eliminating love for our family, neighbor, or community. *He takes that as a given.*

What I find most interesting about this conversation on an order of love is the way it implies a reductionist and zero-sum view of love and compassion. The way it’s being framed by many suggests that to love and care beyond your family means one has to turn their back on family.

Just google “ordo amoris.” Aside from that, the idea that there isn’t a hierarchy of obligations violates basic common sense. Does Rory really think his moral duties to his own children are the same as his duties to a stranger who lives thousands of miles away? Does anyone?

Jesus is clear on who our neighbor is! “Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. The man replied, “The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.” Luke 10:36-37

How do we approach the biblical text when it's filled with strange stories, different genres, & we don't have all the details? Dr. @carmenjoyimes recommends focusing on what the author was trying to communicate through a particular passage & the context in which it was written.

The way up is down; the way to become truly rich is to give away; the way to true power is to give up power in order to serve; the way to real happiness is to seek the happiness of others more than your own. Lose your life to find it. Matt 10:39; Phil 2
