We have an exciting new research technician post available as part of the RumenVentory project supported by DAFM and DAERA. This job will entail collecting methane emissions from beef cattle at pasture. Job details attached topjobs-teagasc.thehirelab.com/LiveJobs/JobAp… @TeagascBeef @TeagascGrass10

The impact of clover on suckler beef cattle performance will be discussed next week at the @TeagascBeef conference. These heifers were finished off grass-clover swards with no meal at finishing. Carcass weight 308kg, R=, 3=, 19 months of age. @TeagascGrass10 @teagasc

@MjScallan I haven’t personally seen or heard any myself this year, but of course it can be an issue this time of the year.

@PeterDoyle_1 @TeagascGrass10 @TeagascBeef Quick question, Peter. Is anyone else having trouble this year with too much clover in the swart causing bloat. Huge issue here with wealings 🤬🤬🤬🤬

3rd cut of red clover in the Derrypatrick herd in Teagasc Grange
Variety: Fearga
Sown 2.5 years ago
This particular field contains 90% clover

@Walsh50Brendan Just from my experience, I have always seen the grass content return to at least 75 % content the following spring. We had 7kg/acre of grass in our mix.
English

@PeterDoyle_1 @TeagascGrass10 @TeagascBeef Have you any experience of the grass content dropping in a red clover silage sward? In our 2021 & 2022 set paddocks the grass content fell off after yr1 but the red clover is stronger than ever and doesn’t look to be going anywhere at the moment
English

@Walsh50Brendan @TeagascGrass10 @TeagascBeef The clover content changes throughout the year, it was 15% for 1st cut, 50% for 2nd cut and typically 80- 90% for 3rd cut. So for a red clover silage field I would expect that content. I would not graze the field at that 90% content.

@PeterDoyle_1 @TeagascGrass10 @TeagascBeef Has the grass content fallen off or was that clover content always the intention Peter?
