It’s just clear to me that the media have an anti-Dem and anti-Black bias. @KeishaBottoms won almost 60% of the vote in a 7 candidate race with record turnout, an electorate shifting blue, and a fractured GOP. Yet this is framed negatively. Based on what?
The Bulwark@BulwarkOnline

"'In Georgia, especially, I think they see Keisha as the next stand, and there’s a sense of, We’re not gonna let them do to her what they did to Kamala.'" Not all Democrats see the result of the Georgia gubernatorial primary that way: lnk.thebulwark.com/4tRZHIu

Harris is seen favorably by a large majority of Democrats. If you want to know why, talk to actual voters, not “operatives and donors.” It’s crazy journalists can find a Trump supporter under any circumstances but couldn’t find a Dem base voter standing right in front of them.
VANITY FAIR@VanityFair

Kamala Harris is weighing a 2028 bid that evokes dread in Democratic operatives and donors. Why? Vanity Fair’s @aidnmclaughlin spoke with more than two dozen of them to find out—and get a sense of her deliberations behind the scenes vanityfair.com/news/story/kam…

@magi_jay This post is unintentionally ironic. Seems the report is, too. Focus on not sucking. Not fitting together race/gender/location micro-demos like a jigsaw puzzle.

This is worse than I thought it was going to be. 1) You can't show the "male voter problem was solvable" by comparing the performance of a white man (Stein) from NC to a mixed-race Black woman from California in that same state. There's also the state vs. federal problem. Other comparisons that could be informative: Casey lost his federal race in a swing state, whereas Slotkin won hers by a slim margin. Casey, notably, lost white college ed men by half the margin Harris did. Literally no idea why they chose Stein as a comparison to elucidate the spurious claim "male voter problem was solveable." A nitty gritty analysis of Casey vs. Slotkin vs. Harris would be much more informative. 2) "Harris ignored rural America therefore she lost." Are these people nuts? The issue for Harris in Pennsylvania and Michigan was NOT a surge in rural voting (Wisconsin, irc, is a bit different). Rather, a slump in urban voters was the death blow. Harris lost PA by ~29,940 votes. Trump gained about 15,000 votes in rural PA. The Philadelphia metro collapse was about 69,000 votes. I'd also posit, as a *white* college educated woman who has actually lived in rural America, that, if you're running a woman, especially a Black mixed-race woman, campaigning in rural America might not have the effect you think it will. It could, in fact, have a backlash effect. We also saw some evidence of gender-related issues with HRC in 2016, especially with white non-college women. Rural America hates college educated women, lol. Believe me, I know. You add racism and "California" on top of that. Oof. People need to stop being so naïve. (No, I do not have a personal problem with California. I'm commenting on my fellow Americans. I'm not saying they're right). Finally, none of this is to say "Don't run women" or "Don't run women of color." But we have to be clearer-eyed about race+gender effects. If your candidate's a white dude, your campaign strategy might be different than if your candidate's a woman &/or a person of color. Harris campaigning in urban areas to offset rural areas was arguably the right choice. And maybe the results would have been different if she'd had more time to reach the voters who stayed home.

@ChrisCadence_ Why does one have to come first? If the goal is to expand health care, for example, why do i care if someone has a race-based and class-based theory of the case?

If Leftists weren’t anti black in almost every way they move I’d actually agree with them. But trying to address America as a class issue and not a race issue is why I will always put my Blackness first.

Here's my autopsy of the 2024 Democratic campaign. What cost Democrats the election, in order of importance: 1. Biden's ego. He wouldn't get out of the race despite dementia and terrible polling numbers. Then he demanded that Kamala Harris be loyal to him, even though he was enormously unpopular. 2. Kamala Harris was a terrible candidate. Hard to win when your candidate can't speak in clear sentences. 3. Horrible to nonexistent primary process, where all good candidates are shut out, and Democratic leadeship anoints the worst possible candidate. 4. They wouldn't do huge, podcast interviews. Cost themselves hundreds of millions of dollars in free media. If you can't make your own case, then you can't win. 5. Harris kept bragging about how many corporate CEOs supported her campaign. And immediately backtracked from her initial, economically populist policies. 6. Instead of pointing out how Trump could turn into a warmonger because all his top donors wanted him to start wars for Israel, she wrapped herself around Dick Cheney and Liz Cheney, verifiable warmongers. 7. The border. 8. Some extreme culture war issues that were not popular with majority of Americans. 9. Embracing Israel, after they had already committed a genocide and were deeply unpopular. 10. Listening to any Democratic consultant. They've never been right my whole life. Democrats keep hiring the same losers and wonder why they keep losing. Bonus one: Listening to idiots in DC. If you want to be popular in the rest of the country, go to a cocktail party in Washington - and do the exact opposite of what everyone in the room says.

@blankslate2017 It's a really good question. To answer it, I think you'd need to know why the Biden admin opened the borders in the first place.

I wonder why it's so hard for Dems to say 'immigration'. It was a top 2 issue for a large slice of voters & Trump won those folks w/Assad margins. I would bet that had Harris run the same exact cmpgn but had repudiated Biden's immigration policies during her 1st wk she'd have won

DNC Chair Ken Martin released an incomplete 2024 election autopsy: • Trump’s “they/them” attacks on Harris were seen as highly effective • Biden team criticized for failing to prepare Harris • Democrats accused of neglecting rural voters and local parties • Report says party relied too much on “not Trump” messaging instead of defining itself

@magi_jay So, I respect the brainwashed cat lady wing of the party. I'm related to some of them. I don't like the bullying and gaslighting, though. The math that says 45% of a large field = 30% support would be an example of this.

@ResistanceSean But what do we make of the fact that the Dems have failed to make significant progress on any of these things while enacting various other policies that most Dem voters do not support? At what point do actions speak louder than words?

Universal health care, expanding social security, expanding social programs, protecting voting rights, taxing the wealthy, getting rid of citizens united are all supported by 90%+ of Dem voters and politicians. Acting like Dems are the enemy of those things is dishonest.

Claiming that Democrats haven't done anything since LBJ is both inaccurate and anti-Black, as Black Americans are the base of this party & most loyal voting bloc. The DSA, and ignorant white Dems who throw themselves behind those antisemites, do not represent this party.

If Craig Breslow can add multiple bats at the deadline, or one big power one, and we never see Durbin, IKF or Story in the lineup again, perhaps. We def have the pitching to do this. Breslow has been terrible at in season acquisitions

Not gonna lie I still think there's an overwhelming likelihood the Red Sox make the postseason fairly comfortably. Only team ahead of them to worry about imo is the Jays. Mariners will catch the A's, who will taper off by the ASB anyway.
