In times of rapid change, the true advantage isn’t talent or planning,it’s the speed of learning. The teams that rise above the rest are those that stay curious, embrace imperfection, surface problems early, and grow relentlessly.

Twenty-five years ago, a single idea took root to bring young people into the room where world issues are debated. Today, that idea has grown into the Kenya Model United Nations (KMUN): a living, breathing platform where Kenya’s youth do not simply observe global affairs, but actively shape what comes next. Honoured to stand alongside French Amb. @arnaud_suquet, Deputy Director KSG Peter Quest, Rob Burnett (CEO, @ShujaazKenya), KMUN founder and visionary @RonnieOsumba , Secretary-General @ModelunKenya Simon Kimuhu, and the committee of Third Secretaries @ForeignOfficeKE led by Debora Osiya and Stephen Otundo at this milestone moment. In a continent where the majority are young, KMUN reminds us that the voice of Africa is not emerging, it is already here. From Nairobi, a growing anchor of multilateralism in the Global South, to partnerships opening pathways in jobs and research, the opportunity is undeniable. Yet so too is the challenge: to rebuild trust in a world unsettled by AI, misinformation, and rapid change. I encouraged this generation to build a deep awareness of where we stand and where we are going to see clearly, think boldly, and act with intention. To exercise agency with courage, to move with urgency, and to carry responsibility not as a burden, but as a calling. Theodore Roosevelt aptly said, “it is not the critic who counts… the credit belongs to the one who is actually in the arena.” The future is not waiting in the distance it is being written now by those willing to step into that arena. We also used the occasion to seek views from the youth on the African Forward Summit between France and Africa in May in Nairobi as well as on the Trust Summit.

This morning I delivered the keynote address at the Royal Palace of Caserta in Italy during the launch of a flagship capacity-building initiative for senior public officials drawn from Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, and Tunisia. The engagement was convened within the framework of Italy’s Mattei Plan, which is repositioning Africa–Europe relations around structured partnership, institutional strengthening, and sustainable human capital development. In my address, I outlined Kenya’s ongoing public service reform trajectory, placing emphasis on ethical leadership, integrity systems, professional standards, and institutional resilience as the bedrock of effective governance and citizen trust. I underscored the deliberate investments we are making to professionalize the public service and to anchor reform within values-driven administrative cultures. I also highlighted the strategic role of the Kenya School of Government and allied public sector training institutions in mainstreaming these competencies across government. I further advanced discussions on structured cooperation between the Italian National School of Administration and the Kenya School of Government. We are aligning this partnership around leadership development, governance reform programming, policy-oriented research, and institutional capacity enhancement. I consider this collaboration integral to building agile, professional, and future-ready public services that can sustain inclusive development outcomes across our respective countries. @AllieviSNA

Conscious leadership doesn’t start with being better; it starts with being aware. The instant you recognize your internal activation, you create space for choice. Awareness is not weakness,it is freedom.

Setting the Pace for the Year The @MediaCouncilK CEO, Mr .@DavidOmwoyo, today held a high-level meeting with the @KSGKenya Director General, Prof. Nura Mohamed, Ph.D, EBS, to discuss strengthening media excellence and advancing public service transformation. The engagement culminated in a proposal to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions. The proposed framework will provide for joint certifications in crisis communication, artificial intelligence ethics, and public engagement. “The future of Kenyan governance and communication looks bright,” said Mr @DavidOmwoyo. Prof. Nura Mohamed, Ph.D, EBS affirmed support for the partnership, noting: “We are co-creating a more informed, transparent, and responsive public service.” Both institutions agreed to fast-track the formalisation of the MoU, which is expected to unlock new training hubs and digital innovation programmes for media and public service practitioners across the country.
