@PeterZhang_BC Thank you Peter! The enzymatic system for trifluoromethylation that James developed is remarkably powerful. There’s more exciting follow-up studies to come, showcasing novel abiotic catalytic activities of nonheme enzymes!

Our work on nonheme iron enzyme-catalyzed olefin trifluoromethylative difunctionalization is now published in @J_A_C_S ! (link: pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.102… Previous ChemRxiv version chemrxiv.org/engage/chemrxi…). This study was led by graduate students @zhangg_james & @ajhuls1 , with key collaboration from Yisong Guo's Lab @MossbauerLab at Carnegie Mellon, providing critical mechanistic insights into this reaction via Mössbauer spectroscopy.

It is great to share our preprint on nonheme Fe enzyme-catalyzed fluorine atom transfer (soon to appear in Nature Synthesis): chemrxiv.org/engage/chemrxi… We evolved ACCO to catalyze C-F bond formation with stereocontrol. Great to report this together with @xiongyih at JHU!

Both my group and Yang's group @yang2biocat have demonstrated that nonheme iron enzymes can be engineered for enantioselective C(sp3)-F bond formation via iron-mediated radical fluorine transfer. Huge congratulations to the team led by postdoc Qun Zhao @qun_zhao , now a professor at Jiangnan University, and Dr. Zhenhong Chen @noelnehc, who just completed his thesis defense (the first in my lab) and has commenced his journey at Merck. Our paper can be accessed through this link for free on Nature Synthesis rdcu.be/dCLc5, and you can find Yang's work on ChemRxiv chemrxiv.org/engage/chemrxi…

Do you find this as fascinating as we do? Electrochemical oxygen-atom transfer – same catalyst oxidizes same substrate at the cathode (O2) and anode (H2O). Dioxygenase reactivity w/ electrochemical energy as the only input. Nicely done, Asmaul and James! tinyurl.com/3xwccpps
