Everyone is focused on the economic and social collapse around us and has no time to examine niceties, like the underlying cause of this predicament, nor to reflect on the massive environmental damage being caused by a dozen or more wars currently underway population.org.au/media-releases…

Hey @AlboMP @JEChalmers @Tony_Burke @AustralianLabor When will you do something about the demand side of the equation for housing? It really isn’t that hard. Cut Net Overseas Migration. Look at the results in Canada for housing. Put Australia first for a change. #auspol

Australia’s NOM has easily exceeded the pre-pandemic trend. Immigration and population growth in Australia are far too high relative to housing supply. As a result, rental vacancy rates are tracking at record lows

The impact of the immigration cuts on Canada’s rental market has been stunning. Rentals.ca this month reported that the average asking rent in Canada has fallen for 17 consecutive months to a 33-month low, down 7.8% from its May 2024 peak macrobusiness.com.au/2026/03/canadi…

@Peter_Strachan @Mon4Kooyong This. But it would require an advanced economy to enable and merit R&D spend directed at core research. We are not an advanced economy.

We can’t call ourselves a “clever country” if we refuse to properly fund science. Many Australian researchers spend more than 30% of their working year writing grant applications with a less than 10% chance of success. That's a major drag on a sector which the government says is key to productivity gains. theage.com.au/national/austr…

population.org.au/media-releases… At a time when resilience is ever more important, what is the Australian government doing by supporting population growth of 426,000 pa in the face of increased climate extremes, multiple wars, and looming shortages of petroleum products?

#BREAKING Anthony Albanese says the rise of One Nation in the polls is due to its supporters wanting “Australia to go back to the 1950’s” and for “the population to look like that” Before adding “that’s not going to happen” #Auspol

So there you have it... Productivity in decline, immigration on the rise... What is the point of all of the immigration then? How stupid do these people think we are?

The ABS keeps arguing that this number shouldn't be used as an equivalent for NOM. Except that these two data series are highly correlated (until recently), and the net long-term/permanent arrivals DO have a direct, practical effect on property demand. It's lazy to just "brush" it off, NOM is dropping (quarterly updated) and ignore it. In fact, I think those Labor supporters / pro-migration / leftards are doing this on purpose to argue we don't have an immigration problem.

Net long term and permanent arrivals for the month of January came in at 57.3k, the highest figure on record for a January. This is up 14k vs last year (+32.5%) and 30k vs 2019 (+110.0%).

Let me make this perfectly clear so there is no misunderstanding it: Labor are NOT AND NEVER WILL CUT IMMIGRATION. They know there is no recourse for the Australian people and the Liberals will continue mass immigration. The only way this ends is regime change.
