Jack Hunt Pool could see £3.8 million refurbishment as part of our leisure investment plan. Cabinet will be asked to approve plans to accept almost £800,000 of grant funding to go towards a major £3.8 million refurbishment of the popular city swimming pool. The planned revamp of Jack Hunt Swimming Pool in Ledbury Road, is the second facility that is set to undergo a makeover as part of a two-year investment programme in the city’s swimming facilities. While we continue to progress plans for a new leisure centre and indoor pool on the Embankment, this investment plan aims to ensure the city’s existing swimming facilities are maintained and upgraded to ensure they can be enjoyed by residents and visitors for many years to come. Our Youth Justice Service has been rated ‘Good’ by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation (HMIP), with some areas rated outstanding. The inspectors looked at our work with children and victims, and praised strong, child-centred practice, skilled practitioners and effective partnership working to support children, victims and the wider community. Cllr Katy Cole, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Peterborough City Council, said: “This positive inspection outcome is a testament to the dedication, skill and compassion of our Youth Justice Service and the partners who work alongside them every day. The team works with children at some of the most difficult and complex points in their lives. Their work is about understanding each child’s experiences, building trust, supporting families, protecting victims and communities, and helping children make positive changes." Our refuse crews have done a sterling job in the extreme heat this week – alongside thousands of other people in many sectors who have carried on working to keep our city running smoothly and to support residents. Thank you to each and every one of you. The conditions have meant that crews were not able to reach every home on today's rounds. If your bin was missed, please leave it out for collection and our crews will do their best to get to you tomorrow. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and also to our refuse staff who have agreed to work overtime tomorrow to reach those in Newborough and Stanground that they could not get to today.

A sunny day in the park can quickly be spoilt by what gets left behind. Before you head home, take a quick look around your spot. Crisp packets, plastic cups, squashed grapes. Bag it all up and take it with you. Or use a bin on your way out. Wherever you are, rubbish left behind means someone else's afternoon gets spoiled. 🌳☀️

Councillors on our Children’s and Young People Scrutiny Committee will hear about proposals for a new purpose-built £13 million Youth Zone for the city at a meeting on Monday. They'll be asked to recommend that Cabinet, at its meeting on 21 July, approves spending £410,000 to enable national youth charity, OnSide Youth Zones, to work with us to progress detailed designs for a new dedicated youth to facility for young people. A Youth Zone would provide safe places to socialise, play sports, learn skills, get support, and take part in activities outside school hours. OnSide already has a national network of 15 Youth zone across the country and a further eight are currently being developed. Find out more: pulse.ly/2kd5lgcarg
