@privacylawyer Remember that they already did this, illegally, during covid. We need to force phone networks to be redesigned to make this type of tracking impossible.

It is absolutely clear that under Bill C-22 (Lawful Access), the government intends to turn every phone into a tracking device. "Federal officials on the defensive as momentum grows against lawful access bill" cbc.ca/news/politics/…

@adam3us @isabelfoxenduke @opentimestamps Bitcoin is an extremely expensive data storage layer. That doesn't make it a bad data storage layer. If you're willing to pay a lot of money per byte to ensure your data never gets lost, there is nothing remotely comparable to Bitcoin right now. Not even close.

MARA CEO Fred Thiel comments on Bitcoin's potential as a data availability layer... bullish.
MARA Foundation@MARAFoundation_

Fred Thiel (@fgthiel) shares his interest in the use of Bitcoin for data-availability use-cases—including use of Bitcoin as an “oracle” or censorship-resistant record for financial, legal or other critical documentation. These use cases may benefit the network in the form of driving on-chain fees, which will be critical for the network’s long-term health as the block subsidy declines.

@captgouda24 This is ignorant doomerism; comparative advantage teaches us that even if most prostitutes are better in every way, the demand for prostitution is infinite. Thus, one needs only specialize in a particular degrading act, at a low enough price point.

@peterktodd @castlehillmom The wastage costs $1 maybe. $15 dollars for the non wastage. Also the fact that one person alone can eat more than 4 other people put together. It doesn’t cost the same money to feed a gorilla as it does to feed a baby bird.

Continuing the WTF are people doing to feed themselves and their families discourse, I have no idea how this woman could spend $90 to make cheeseburgers at home. It costs less per person the more people you feed. Just bizarre commentary. Mostly she just sounds burnt out. This would take me 30 min and $30 (less with sales).

First funds spent from the $LADA donations! Flash Battalion had a @carforukraine fundraiser that was €3885.45 short of its €11,000 initial goal to buy a truck. If all goes well the truck will be ready in a week or two, and I'll drive it to Kramatorsk myself. We decided to go this route as Car for Ukraine do a great job of getting trucks ready for battle. They're a Ukrainian-based charity that has donated 853 vehicles so far. They have a well-oiled process that ensures the vehicles are mechanically sound and suitable. They'll even be installing armor on the trucks to help protect the soldiers using them. We've gotten about $38,000 USD worth of donations so far. So this is just the beginning! car4ukraine.com/campaigns/rain… 25JUPL6ksapY1iCLWkFcSaXaA6Ar3W7JDCdPjeSApump

> But I do want to discourage other caseless plaintiffs against suing us. Has been a costly distraction. You're not going to. He was smart to sue you, even if he lost, as the publicity helps make clear that he was in fact innocent. And good for him. The real problem was you reported on an accusation that had a high chance of being false. Better to wait until there is a conviction.

Have a problem I genuinely would love input on. My wife and I own a local newspaper. In our town the police arrested a member of the community for having what they thought were naked pictures of a juvenile on his phone. Held him for days. Turns out, it was his own kid and none of the pictures were sexual. Terrible. Newspaper we own reports on it. Just the facts. Also report on when he’s released and there are no charges. Exactly what local news should do. He sues us and the local radio station, which had also reported on the arrest. We’re like: dude, we just reported the facts. Radio station settles (not sure terms). We push on because we did nothing wrong and the nature of a newspaper is reporting what happened. So we win. No cause of action against the paper. And then we, under statute, get awarded attorneys fees. They amount to tens of thousands of dollars. So what’s the right move? I don’t particularly care about the money. But I do want to discourage other caseless plaintiffs against suing us. Has been a costly distraction. But also seems wrong to bankrupt the guy. Genuinely looking for what to do next…

Isn't there a general principle to report on convictions rather than arrests? This principle would have avoided this mess. And if this is a reasonable principle, then you did in fact do something wrong. The arrest was based on an incorrect understanding of the situation. If you look at it from his point of view, he did nothing wrong. And for him it looks like you did do a lot of wrong. So I think you should try out different perspectives here.

@castlehillmom With my sons away at college, a gallon of milk sometimes expires before we drink it. When my sons come home for the summer, we go through 3 gallons of milk before the next expiration date. It doesn’t cost less to feed more.

@HeleneTveit1 “we adults should help them avoid experiencing sexually offensive/encouraging comments” Incredible how not a single word was said about those "adults" getting the Muslims in the schools to stop making sexually offensive comments to 13 year old girls. Just expel them.

Look what is happening in Norwegian schools! Teachers are asking Norwegian girls in schools to wear more clothes so as not to tempt Muslim students to make sexual remarks. The girls are 13 years old. The message from the school to the children and parents is as follows: “Hello parents/guardians of 8th and 9th grade students – Today, several girls have been asked to put on a sweater and not walk around the school wearing only a tank top. They are perceived as being ‘provocatively dressed’ with only a tank top on the upper body. With regard to ethics, and the fact that we adults should help them avoid experiencing sexually offensive/encouraging comments, we would like to have you parents on our ‘team’ in this matter. A short-sleeved T-shirt is acceptable during classes/lessons. The school is a public place, and this entails a certain ‘dress code’. This message has only been sent to the girls in 8th and 9th grade.” The girls are not allowed to dress like they want at school anymore.

“Dave Ramsey has talked about the psychology of paying with cash: you actually feel it when it leaves your wallet.” This. Most of the push to eliminate cash is psychopaths who want to control you. But some of it is psychopaths who want to juice the economy with dumb spending.
Dave Van de Walle@Area224

I have a different twist on this whole lunchgate/savingsgate/Boomer money thing: **Moving to cashless has really messed with people.** Dave Ramsey has talked about the psychology of paying with cash: you actually feel it when it leaves your wallet. And if you have, say, $40 in cash for the week and you blow $20 the first day, you then tell yourself...well, crap, I gotta do the value meal tomorrow...or...hmm, maybe I'll have to pack lunch. It's SO easy, now, to just...use the card and try to keep track on your digital wallet. AND it's easy to say, too, "well, I'll watch it." But if you can ping money from one account to another, or just put it on a credit card that you think you'll pay back at the end of the month — but you won't — then...it gets easier to just spend. @AndToddsaid raises a good point on affordability, and of course there are ways to save and scrimp, but moving away from paper makes it easier to put it on a card of some sort — debit, credit, whatever you've attached to your phone — and you're on your way. But if you don't feel it, you don't...feel it.

...and no, I'm not just saying this. Look around and you can find the likes of Visa and Mastercard making this exact argument in their lobbying documents. I've seen it myself years ago. They might be smart enough now to not be so blatant... But they certainly used to be.

Russians are increasing efforts to disguise military transport as civilian vehicles. In the past 24 hours alone, we recorded the movement of air defense systems transported by civilian heavy-duty trucks, making identification while in transit significantly more difficult.

@kimhvik2 @petpavan Ukraine can do whatever it wants to defend itself and survive. They're the ones defending themselves from an illegal, genocidal, invasion. Russia is the aggressor here. They have zero right to even be using air defense. Let alone transporting it via civilian vehicles.
