Freeing up parking is taking extra long in Pittsburgh after near-record snow. City hired contractors to help but still a lot to go. After shoveling my spot out earlier I decided to shovel out another for exercise. Instead of waiting around and complaining, let’s start a trend 🧵

October, 1930 - Notre Dame visits Pitt for only meeting of legendary coaches Knute Rockne and Jock Sutherland.
Over 75,000 at Pitt Stadium, hundreds of fake tickets in circulation made for a chaotic scene at the gates. ND won 35-19.

What’s fascinating is that the old Gilbert’s sign isn’t fading away as much as it is emerging as more recent paint covering it up weathers away.

Downtown Pittsburgh has gotten so dangerous that Gilbert’s was forced to close. But Carl Hermann Furs is still hanging on.

For all the #Pirates fans who complain nonstop there's nothing they can do ... take a look at this. He'd told me he was about to buy a 'stupid expensive' ticket in Cleveland to get his message out. And he wound up on TV all night.
