Domestic cotton consumption exceeds production in both 2024–25 and 2025–26 seasons. To ensure adequate supply for the textile industry, the 11% import duty on cotton had been exempted by GOI from 19 August 2025 to 31 December 2025. Also, Cotton is currently classified as a freely exportable commodity under India’s export policy (as confirmed in the official Ministry of Textiles Annual Report 2025-26, published May 5, 2026) In lieu of further demand from textile industry, @CMOTamilnadu Vijay has demand that imports not be curbed. This is simple demand vs supply thing. Luddite handles making this about North farmers vs South textile manufacturers is laughable. Get a grip. @TVKPartyHQ #TVKVijay

This is just the start. $20 billion package largely focussed around bringing 7nm chips will do wonder in terms of building ecosystem over the next 3-5 years. For 2-5nm chips anyway will have to bring ISM3.0 & by then 🇮🇳 GDP will be $7 trillion so easily can dole out even more 💰.

"2025-26, wearing apparel contracted by 5.3%,leather by 4.1%, while textiles...grew by just 1.2%. Other manufacturing collapsed by 14.9%, and food products grew by less than 1%...while labour-intensive, export-oriented sectors are stagnating or shrinking." m.economictimes.com/opinion/et-com…
