I am tired of short and part-time contract offers. Don't they know that we need to have some certainties in our life to perform better. I am even okay with one year contract but not with 3 months part-time work. #AcademicChatter

It is too hard to concentrate when I am working on sth that I don't wanna work on. Having other issues in my mind makes it much harder. I am just stuck and cannot write a paragraph 😔

Yesterday my neighbours were partying, so I could not sleep. Today, I cannot focus on my work and feeling exhausted, although I had three cups of coffee. I want to tell them come and work instead of as they didn't let me to sleep yesterday night.

@PhDVoice @PostdocVoice Yes, just once close to the end of my PhD. I could not stop crying during a whole day. I was overwhelmed. After that day, I had a break.

I do struggle to motivate myself to work in these days. I know this is because of repeating analyses (issues with the dataset) without having any reinforcement for a while, but still struggle to cope with it. Knowing theory alone, doesn't help always in practice @AcademicChatter

@Ghada2018 @PhDVoice @AcademicChatter There is a paper on the definition of pilot and feasibility studies. If I am not mistaken feasibility is used as an overarching term whereas pilot is a miniature of the main study. I will look at the paper's details and share if I find it.

@Akustics Medical students get more reinforcement during their journey e.g. completing a module. They do not depend on a (group of) supervisor(s) for at least three years and not working on the same project for many years.

Attrition rates for medical school way less than rates for PhD programs. What is it about PhD programs that makes so many people want to quit #phdchat #phdlife #phdvoice

If I don't want to work, it means there is sth I need to do but I don't know how to do. Not knowing causes procrastinating.

@PhDVoice @PostdocVoice I think second year was a bit easier since I was doing my fieldwork. The writing up bit was the hardest for me because of being anxious and tired constantly until that point of the PhD and also requiring much more work etc.

@LuZhang_ArtHist @PhDVoice For full time students depending on personal circumstances it could be asked for extension and also if I am not wrong you could ask for suspension. The lady I mentioned was also UK based

Today, I was told that a lady did her PhD in 12 years. I wanted to say congratulations for not quitting her PhD during that 12 years. Four years even felt like a lifetime to me. I think she is amazing. @PhDVoice

@strucbybio This is annoying. Everyone has different circumstances. That person should learn that!

@PhDdays @PhDVoice Someone told me that people who take that long probably donot deserve to be in the field of research. Because one should be able to do certain things in specific time, otherwise they are incapable- probably belong to somehwere else.

@PhDdays @PhDVoice It took me eleven. My spouse and I were both working on PhDs. One would take a financial leave and work while the other studied, then we'd switch. It was hard but it worked. We both finished and we're still together. :-)

Is being super excited and happy after producing a Sankey diagram or conducting an analysis like generating a survival tree in R a sign of being a nerd? I think it is just a sign of loving what I do 🙃 #AcademicTwitter #phdchat @PhDVoice
