@phantomofearth

I take a look at #WindowsInsider builds and older Windows betas, with some randomness and bad jokes here and there.

It looks like the ability to remove unwanted quick actions from Windows 11's quick settings menu is finally returning! Hidden in build 26300.7965 is an updated energy saver quick setting which supports this (removing it doesn't work just yet, though). Hopefully more follow suit.

Looks like .8135 was replaced with .8138, so Beta should get that.

I’m building a new team to work on Windows apps! You don’t need prior experience with the platform, what matters most is strong product thinking and a deep focus on the customer.

If you’ve built great apps on any platform and care about crafting meaningful user experiences, I’d love to hear from you. Send me your portfolio via DM. If you know someone looking for their next opportunity, feel free to share this with them!

Some fun insider info tidbits here: The new movable Taskbar is labeled "Priority 0" internally. Resizable Taskbar is "Priority 1" Both features will work similarly to how they did on Windows 10, with the smaller Taskbar option reducing both the height of the Taskbar and size of the icons. The ability to customize this and move the Taskbar will exist in the Windows Settings app. windowscentral.com/microsoft/wind…

Microsoft's big Windows K2 effort is a great start, but there are still some issues that the company isn't promising to fix that I really hope they will address before we can consider Windows the GOAT again windowscentral.com/microsoft/wind…

@Techie007L The ID change is only in .8106+ I think? Person on the MDL forum who said it didn't work was on that build, .8039 and older should work fine with the older ID

@phantomofearth Old values working fine for me—they probably set the wrong registry values or broke ReconcileFeatures. I added the registry tweak to my debloat Windows script, and all the machines I checked are running the new NVMe driver just fine on 26200.8039 (latest). Never used Vivetool.

All this is is a change of feature ID, which is quite common with all kinds of features, and the registry trick was just a different way of feature ID enablement. Nothing got "blocked", it's just a side effect of a common occurrence, but this writer is known for clickbait so...
NeowinFeed@NeowinFeed

Microsoft just blocked a Registry hack that gave Windows 11 a massive SSD speed boost. 🚫 The "Native NVMe" trick (ported from Windows Server 2025) could improve IOPS by up to 80%, but it is now disabled in the latest builds. There is still one way to enable it: neowin.net/news/report-mi… ^P

@phantomofearth Can we use Vivetool to enable it (with 60786016) or is the registry way mandatory?

"Microsoft shuts down another Windows 11 registry hack that allowed native NVMe SSD support." According to those who had managed to enable the nvmedisk.sys driver on their PCs, it significantly improved performance of approximately 10% to 15%, citing lower latency and higher transfer speeds. Now, Insider builds have to dig around with a third-party app to find it. [1/2]

Also, you can still enable Native NVMe the registry way by following the same steps as before but replacing 735209102 with 3244671118 so no, you don't need to use a third party tool either...
