Imagine living in a world where if everyone stops buying non-essential things for a month, we enter a perpetual hellscape of death.

I’m very confused about the number of people who think “property tax” is taxes you pay for services you consume instead of a made up asset value the county used to collateralize a bond offering so they could hire 8,000 administrators for a school with a 40% literacy rate.

I'm interested in *gambling addiction*... (...in addition to being a staunch libertarian, in favor of personal sovereignty.) ----- What do you think of a law like this: * Each year, each person is allowed to **cap** their total $ gambling losses for **next year**. In other words, in 2026, you could register online (with the govt) such that in 2027 you could not lose more than $500. Then, casinos, DraftKings etc, would be forced to cut you off, after you lost $500 (in 2027). They'd have to cut you off until Jan 1 2028. Or -- they'd have to let you play for free, I guess. Just trying to be creative here. What do you think? Any problems? ----- One problem is: how do you define gambling? Is a Vanguard Index Fund, gambling? What about options and puts? What about SuperBowl squares? Plus, of course, any law-based solution, will send people into the Black Market. I've heard that most gambling profits (80%) come exclusively from the tiny minority (5$) of problem gamblers. So they obviously would fight this tooth-and-nail.

@abarber1 Sure is. One of the reasons I have 90s nostalgia. But it’s not coming back any more than family night at Pizza Hut or blockbuster video.

It wasn’t that long ago that I realized how rare it was that people truly felt this way. The world in which you care about *argument quality* instead of *who* delivers the argument or how *instrumentally useful* it is a much, much better world.

I didn’t bet Florida and don’t care that they lost. But the sequence of leaving open a corner 3 when up 2 and then not understanding to get a shot up with time for a tip in if necessary is so laughably bad.

Has any team ever practiced late game scenarios? Or do they just work on inopportune fouling and trying to score 1 on 4 early in the shot clock when leading by 15?

I just wish we could have more stoppages in college basketball. Watching more than a few minutes of actual game play is just too much.
