@PhilB2810 @daviddownie17 So correcting some decisions makes up for all the glaringly obvious issues does it? It’s about as far removed from a net positive as it’s possible to be. Who on earth watches football and focuses on the decisions being made by the referee?

Patronising, this. Saying it’s disliked because it’s gone against your own team. People don’t like it because it ruins the game. Saying it’s a net positive, are we all meant to go away from the game saying “ah well, bad luck. At least it was a net positive.” It’s shite.
Scott Willis@scottjwillis

VAR isn’t perfect and that’s because we have humans implementing a subjective rule book. It’s still a net positive for the game and has corrected most of the biggest clear errors. People dislike it but they hate massive errors that go against them more that you can see clearly on replays.

@PhilB2810 @SullySullSull I think you make a fair argument, but my main rebuttal is it shouldn’t be used until it’s perfect. I don’t think that’ll ever be the case

@daviddownie17 @SullySullSull Yeah a fair argument but my view is VAR gets more correct subjective calls than a human on a field with one look. Goal line and offside usually black and white

@PhilB2810 @SullySullSull But that makes VAR even worse - because it’s still subjective and therefore pointless, just because they’ve got a few decisions right/wrong. Tennis? Black and white.

@daviddownie17 @SullySullSull I don’t see that. Remember all the whinging about refs, every single week and how technology should be used to fix errors. It’s all still subjective though so accept still controversial

@PhilB2810 @SullySullSull But there was over a century in football that was adored without even considering this. It’s just sickened what was previously authentic and pure.

@daviddownie17 @SullySullSull Offside gets more grief than anything and that is the equivalent to ball in and out at tennis. No one at tennis moans about a ball being a mm out, like football fans do with close offsides

@PhilB2810 @SullySullSull Tennis I get, because it literally can’t be wrong. In football, goal line - all good. VAR will never be different to what it is now.

@daviddownie17 @SullySullSull Yeah sometimes, they get 96% of the key calls correct as judged by an independent panel. Their accuracy levels are very good it’s just if it’s your team is 70/30 wrong and 30/70 if it’s against your team

@daviddownie17 @SullySullSull Yeah that’s a wider debate as to whether sports were better before tech. Ultimately brought in because sports couldn’t accept officials errors that could be overturned I.e. tennis Hawkeye that everyone assumes is accurate

@daviddownie17 @SullySullSull How could football be the only major sport in the world without video technology? It wouldn’t make sense in my view It’s just it’s fans can’t accept it

@daviddownie17 @SullySullSull I also remember ‘how can we not have technology like other sports’ from pundits when refs made on-field errors

@daviddownie17 @SullySullSull The clubs wanted it 19-1 just 18 months ago and the managers of the clubs will have had a massive say in that. They know the decision making is more accurate with VAR than without it

@PhilB2810 @SullySullSull That’s pretty fucking obvious isn’t it? That’s why they all say it’s shite. Happens to all. How don’t you get this? Are you in love with it or something?

@stevebird1877 Oh dear, can’t cope with a difference of opinion. I’ll keep enjoying my football with VAR cos it’s staying and ref decision making is better as a result of it, you’ll have to put up with your football being ruined 👍🏻

And just to confirm the whole thing is BS. Here is a lovely picture from these idiots trying to tell us this proves an offside. So when was the ball actually kicked ? you muppets! Show me that photo and i bet i could move it a frame either way to prove you wrong. Games gone.

@stevebird1877 It enhances the live experience in my opinion. I work weekends so have to share my season ticket. You must be mad paying for a ST if the experience is being ruined?

@PhilB2810 Nope. It's very flawed and ruining the live experience. Well done for going to "a lot of games" 🤣 ST holders hate it

@stevebird1877 Been to a lot of games, it’s great because you know 95/100 the correct decision will be reached, rather than a game decided by a possible referee error in real time which can be totally understandable btw Embrace it, it’s not going anywhere because 95% of the prem clubs want it

@PhilB2810 What BS you talk. Have you actually been to a game?, VAR has ruined the live experience totally. VAR is for TV viewers.
