@Re__Thinking @BrennanSurgeon Technical skills can be taught,practiced and measured. Underneath must lie a foundation of HF skills that are more difficult to measure and therefore develop. ‘Foundation’ skills is also slightly derogatory so I prefer ‘Core Skills’. Anything other than ‘soft’!!!

Team working, good communication, decision making & others are often called 'soft skills'
In some ways this term damps down their importance
Yes we need expertise & training to do our jobs BUT we also need core & essential skills to make healthcare safer.

Some great ‘Information Processing’ by the @RCSI_EM_Sim teams yesterday. It’s the bedrock to sound Decision Making. It’s like drinking water from a hose sometimes and we need tools to actively manage the red side and promote the green side.

Don't think many would fly if safety checks & briefings had not been completed
Briefings are equally important in healthcare, improving safety & teamwork, yet sadly not everyone actively engages with them
Would we behave differently if our own life or limb depended on it?
