@chellgod My local card shop reviews the cards first and can basically give you the grade beforehand. If it gets below a 9 they don't make me pay the grading fee. If you're near Philly the place I use is Wheelhouse.

Really enjoyed Roger Clemens interview on Pardon My Take. Fucking insane he struck out 20 batters not once, but twice. I might have to go back and watch that on YouTube. I’m a baseball guy now, remember?

@PhilsUtley26 Should’ve never came back out knowing offense wasn’t playing well either. Could’ve kept it a 1 run game.

Nobody else is properly glazing Christian Scott so I’ll do it. Here’s what I’ve got from my evaluation: - 27 years old - Gator - Drafted by Mets in 5th round in 2021 - MLB debut in 2024 - Tommy John survivor He is fearless and confident. Threw a couple shit pitches here and there but immediately followed it up with nasty cheese. Was not scared of anyone in that Phillies lineup. Cool, calm and collected. Says a lot from a young pitcher on the road. I liked everything I saw from this guy. Makes sense the Mets won’t trade him. He’s a star.

@ArcainiLuke Pulled him too early last time and left in too long now. Mattingly is clueless with the pen.

Four days rest for your bullpen. Didn't agree with bringing Aaron Nola back out there. Brett Baty takes him deep to right field and it's a 2-0 game.

@jmcammisa Good to see relying on the change and curve more when his other pitches have gotten destroyed.

I mean.. notes on Nola’s adjustment below. 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 6 K • 23.3% Changeup • 38.1% Whiff on the day
Joseph Cammisa@jmcammisa

Aaron Nola seems to be working in a slight overhaul. He was solid on 7/10: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 8 K. A somewhat premature pull shortened the outing, but that's now back-to-back outings where Nola has looked a bit more vintage. He's posted a 22.5% K-BB rate over his last three starts after carrying just a 15.5% mark across his previous 16. While I understand it's a small sample, the improvement seems tied to a heavier reliance on his changeup. Over his previous 80.2 innings, Nola threw his changeup 12.4% of the time (17.5% vs. LH, 4.8% vs. RH). That usage has since jumped to 19.8% overall (7.4% jump) -- 25.1% against lefties and 7.4% against righties. His changeup won't light up stuff models by any means, but it's become more effective. Nola still sits around 85 MPH with stock movement traits, though he has recently killed an inch of vertical break. His release point is naturally lower but it hasn't deviated much, if at all, from previous outings. And I don't think the "new" movement profile is due to any seam orientation change. Nola still runs w/ the circle change grip and two-seam orientation, but it seems he's getting a bit more SSW than usual. Whether he is kicking it off that middle-finger more w/ a slight increase in middle-finger pressure or just being more intentional of feeling it off the finger before release, the results have definitely turn on its' head. He's much more confident mixing it in significantly more vs lefties and righties alike, while keeping the hitters off balance. The biggest impact has come against lefties who have been a thorn in his side all year: .274/.351/.502, .366 wOBA and a 10.8 BB%. Before the adjustment: • .286/.374/.531, .389 wOBA, 21.2 K% and a 12.3 BB%. After: • .227/.250/.386, .269 wOBA, 31.3 K% and a 4.2 BB%. Again, it's a smaller sample but the adjustment has been much needed for both himself and the Phillies. The underlying swing-and-miss numbers have evidently been there as well. Before 6/28: • 24.5% Whiff, 23.2 K%, 4.90 FIP ➡️CH: 16.7% Whiff, 25.0% Chase After 6/28: • 40.0% Whiff, 28.2 K%, 3.82 FIP ➡️CH: 50.0% Whiff, 45.5% Chase Nola will need this changeup working, especially as teams stack lefties against him. In some ways, the pressure from the lefty heavy matchup has forced him to solve this issue. I'm not expecting a full return to 2022 form (though flashes are possible), but at the very least this current form he's in can give the Phillies a better chance to pull lengthy, quality outings from him.

Shoutout to Noles. That’s three straight good starts by him. Dodged some trouble tonight, kept the ball down and did his job.

The fascination with sports cards really blows my mind. It’s the newest form of gambling. Even more addicting than sports betting. Don’t get me wrong - I loved collecting cards as a kid. Had binders organized by players and teams. But I just don’t give a shit about them now.

I listed the regular season rank of every non-2020 World Series champion in: ▪ Starting pitcher K% ▪ Starting pitcher SIERA ▪ Offense flyball% ▪ Offense HardHit% (Statcast) Trust-worthy system: look for teams whose top-end starters find whiffs and whose bats launch. 🚀

@AdamGotPicks @steaakfriend Yes. Once he realized what he did, he had a masterful pivot to making it funny and “rage bait” but the initial intent of the question was 100% serious. Also as someone commented the quick “let’s move on” is a huge tell.
