Our team members delivered their final presentations on their Six Sigma Green Belt projects today, showcasing the work they’ve put in over the past 8 weeks. Their projects focused on: • BOM Remediation and Return-to-Stores Process Optimisation • Test Specification Accuracy and SharePoint Change Control • Wire Storage Area Improvement It was fantastic to see them confidently applying the Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) methodology using their new Six Sigma tools to drive real improvements in our operations. A huge thank you to Vikki Howells MS, Welsh Minister for Further & Higher Education and MS for Cynon Valley, for visiting us last Friday! Great to showcase our work creating job opportunities at the top of the Cynon Valley. We highlighted partnerships with Aspire, Merthyr College, Coleg y Cymoedd, and USW via the Network75 degree apprenticeship program. A highlight was our academy, hands-on IPC-certified training with Kayleigh, plus innovative digital content from One Step North featuring interactive tools, AR, and gamification for engaging learning. We also shared our outreach, like Girls Can Engineer books in local primaries, inspiring early STEM interest and local career paths. We would like to thank Vikki for her support and for championing further education and economic growth in the Cynon Valley. We are excited about what we can achieve to create brighter futures for local people! ✨

🌟 This week, we welcomed our latest work experience stars! 🌟 Shoutout to Chaya and Lee from Coleg y Cymoedd who joined us for an exciting week of hands-on experience! They spent time on the shop floor learning from our skilled operators, getting stuck into real-world tasks, and also dedicated sessions in our Academy sharpening their skills. Both of them seemed to really enjoy the experience, we hope it's given them a great insight into our world of manufacturing/engineering! New major milestone! 🚀 We have successfully completed our UL 508A certification process and are now officially recognised as a UL Listed Panel Manufacturer! In the next few days, Philtronics will appear in the UL Product iQ Database, allowing customers, inspectors, and partners to easily verify our status and confidence in our industrial control panels. What does UL 508A certification mean? UL 508A is the premier safety standard for industrial control panels in the US and Canada. It ensures panels are designed and built to the highest standards for electrical safety, reducing risks of fire, shock, and other hazards while meeting requirements for proper component selection, wiring, short-circuit ratings, and compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). This certification gives our customers peace of mind, smoother inspections, and greater acceptance by authorities, insurers, and end-users. Exciting news from Hirwaun! 📚 Today, we were proud to deliver copies of "Girls Can Engineer" to Hirwaun Primary School, in partnership with Enginuity. This special initiative is all about raising awareness of engineering careers among young girls, helping to close the skills gap in manufacturing and engineering (where women still make up just 16% of the UK workforce), and championing diversity in STEM. What makes this donation even more special? We've been able to customise the books with our very own female ambassador, Kayleigh, who joined Philtronics 15 years ago with no prior electronics experience and has grown into an inspiring trainer. The pupils met Kayleigh in person, so seeing her featured as a real-life role model in the book brings everything to life and shows them that these careers are truly within reach! At Philtronics, we're committed to making a lasting impact in our local community. With our 50/50 male-to-female workforce, 7 apprentices, and awards for Developing Future Talent, we are passionate about creating opportunities and nurturing the next generation of innovators right here on our doorstep. Over the past couple of weeks, Calum and Stuart have successfully completed the comprehensive @SOLIDWORKS Essentials training course with Solid Solutions – a full 4-day deep dive into the latest 3D CAD tools and techniques. They’ve mastered everything from: ✅ Advanced sketching & part modelling ✅ Symmetry, patterns & revolved features ✅ Shelling, ribs, drafting and manufacturing-focused features ✅ Editing, repair tools & design intent best practices ✅ Configurations, global variables & equations ✅ Bottom-up assembly modelling and exploded views ✅ Engineering drawings & BOM creation This intensive training significantly strengthens our in-house CAD capabilities, meaning faster turnarounds, more sophisticated design solutions, and even greater value for our clients. Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming Jeff Baker from @enginuityorg to Philtronics! Jeff brought us the new “Girls Can Engineer” book, which we can’t wait to get into the hands of 7 to 9-year-old girls at around a dozen local primary schools in the new year. What started as a quick handover turned into an inspiring chat sharing everything we’re doing here: our outreach plans, the Philtronics Academy, and the fact that 50% of our team are women who joined with little or no experience and have become true role models. Our in-house trainer Kayleigh is the perfect example: 15 years ago, she started in production knowing nothing about electronics; today she trains the next generation. We ended up spending the afternoon creating a special Philtronics page for the book – starring cartoon Kayleigh – to show local girls that exciting careers in engineering and manufacturing are literally on their doorstep and that girls absolutely belong here. Huge thank you to Jeff and the Enginuity team for creating such a wonderful resource.
