As a final note, we point out the advantages of membrane binding and self-assembly over simpler passive mechanisms, chief among them being precise thresholding and magnitude of response.

The real kicker, though: In order for this switching mechanism to be robust and functional, the component concentrations and affinities need to be tuned into fairly precise ranges. We find that evolution has done exactly that for the components of the endocytic machinery!

I’m excited to finally share our new preprint! Membrane-associated assembly processes like CME function as precisely-tunable, spatially targetable, robust on/off switches that don’t require energy at decision-time. #biophysics arxiv.org/abs/2505.17290

Call me old-fashioned, but I don't think the government should dictate which words scientists can or can't use in their research. Banning words is an idiotic idea reminiscent of communist era censorship. It won't achieve anything -people will simply replace banned terms with others, leading to an endless game of whack-a-mole. Its surprising that self-proclaimed conservatives support this, given that limiting government interference in free speech was once a core conservative value

@AlexanderRKlotz I quite like it when a seminar opens by going through the most relevant textbook-level problem to make sure everyone is on the same page

MIssouri voters voting for abortion rights, an increase in the minimum wage, and paid sick leave, and a senator and a president who strongly oppose these things is where we are in a nutshell

Are we ready to talk about the election models being worse than in 2016?

Vote cast, all I gotta do now is wait. That's the easy part, right?

@AdrienCorenflos @qberthet That's magic to me. What is the formula you use in the first step? How long would it take if you also had to derive that?

The Matrix Cookbook contains the following formula, but it contains a flaw. Let's use Penrose's tensor diagrams to derive it from scratch, and correct the mistake!

And a reminder to everyone using scipy's curve_fit routine, you must pass absolute_sigma=True to get a legitimate parameter covariance matrix out
