@Arkypatriot My wife has become enamored of beets lately, and they are not bad. I avoided them for most of my 75 years because they were pickled. I never had a baked sweet potato until I was about 50. Could stand candied canned yams!

The other day I made this salad, and my husband loved it. A bright, earthy salad made with beets, crisp cucumbers, fresh dill, olive oil, and a splash of white balsamic vinegar, finished with creamy feta cheese. I think the next time I’m going to add red onion. It’s sweet, tangy, crunchy, and fresh all at once the kind of simple salad that tastes like summer and spring. No, I’m sure some of you are going to go. Oh my God no not beets. But that’s OK. It’s really good. Very healthy.

San Augustine, Texas grocer R.V. Hall settles an account with one of his customers, 1943. A scene repeated countless times in small-town Texas over the years, customers coming on to settle their tab with the grocer at the end of a month. I love the details here: the man's hat, the cigarette in his hand, the cash in the grocer's hand etc... The customer looks like a working man, maybe a mechanic or something like that. 3-4 times I've been exploring some old abandoned building with my camera, wonder what function it served, and come across a box of old tabs, alphabetized, all from the same month in 1934 or whatever, and I think, "Aha! It was a grocery store." Do you remember any stores that ran monthly tabs for their customers? I think by my time they were pretty much a thing of the past. An incredible photo!

So, I have never been a natural horseman, but I can tell you when a horse pops up on the front end, the first thing you do is throw your weight forward, not stay straight in the saddle. Second thing you do is NOT SAW ON THE BIT AND HANG ON THE REINS.

I don’t know how cake stores stay in business. A basic 8in round cake at my local bakery is $80. If you want them to put some effort in, it’s about $120. Who is their target audience here? 😅🍰

I know as a cotton guy , dry in Texas doesnt hit everyone the same. I really dont think many understand how dry it is when I say its really dry in Lubbock. This missed rain was a kick in the shins, maybe about 20 inches higher if you ask a few.

@loucottonballs Sorry they missed that rain last week. But there is still time. Today’s prices encourage turning on drip systems, but you can’t water cotton up from a drip system. I am a bit surprised that they havent come up with a germination drip adjunct. It’s not that much more expensive.
