Should Kai Havertz have been sent off? 🤔 VAR checked the challenge for serious foul play, but the on-field decision of a yellow card was upheld.

@essexloko74 @BBCMOTD I’m not disputing that Foden should have had a red card. Interesting take by the way, effectively saying Havertz “tackle” is higher than that, which actually makes it worse if anything.

@love_THFC @peterwoodman67 Agreed and on the same site, more or less. Modern day economics mean you have to put on other events and Spurs do that well, but front and centre is it’s a football ground.

@peterwoodman67 Not true. Whether or not they got it right, the board at Spurs tried desperately to create a stadium that was right for the fans. Not just move into an athletics stadium

Henry. If West Ham somehow survive you could write this same piece about Spurs. The move to a new stadium, the priority of commerce over football, the poor signings etc etc. #COYS
Henry Winter@henrywinter

Karren Brady’s promise of “a world-class team in a world-class stadium” rings even more hollow now. West Ham United should never have moved to a soulless public athletics track. Great move for the board but not for the fans. Leaving Upton Park made sense for commercial reasons but not sporting/atmosphere. Daniel Levy was right. The Olympic Stadium should have been knocked down and a proper football stadium built there. It is a good site. But the Olympic lobby and politicians got all protective and precious about the 2012 legacy. How often does this country need a huge athletics arena anyway? Yes, West Ham won a European trophy since they’ve left Upton Park. But London Stadium was always a problem, always a passion-killer, fans distant from the ones they love, the players, and limited potential for increased revenue streams. Other reasons behind club’s demise. Lack of leadership in the boardroom. Recruitment an issue, too. What a mess. Record losses, fears over future of Fernandes, Summerville and Nuno, intensified protests against chairman Sullivan.   Relegation likely. Two points adrift of safety following 3-1 defeat to Newcastle. Wretched goal difference (-22) compared to Spurs’ (-9). Spurs need only a point from Chelsea away (hard) or David Moyes’ Everton at home to guarantee survival and condemn West Ham. Can Moyes do West Ham a favour? The club who let him go. West Ham need to beat ex-Spur Joe Rodon and Leeds at home anyway. West Ham look doomed to the drop. They will return but need better ownership. And many of their fans have been warning of this perfect storm for some time. #WHUFC

@peterwoodman67 Spurs built a purpose built ground widely regarded as one of, if not the best stadium in the country. The stadium has nothing to do with Spurs decline, it’s been not getting the right manager, poor recruitment and for some reason a never ending injury list that needs looking at

@essexloko74 @BBCMOTD Studs up, has left his feet, nowhere in the vicinity of the ball and gets the player on the achillies. That’s a red.

@BBCMOTD Nope. Not enough force, playing was running away from Havertz, he felt the contact and dived forward. Yellow is right call.

@henrywinter Or he could have waited a week, done it after he had left and walked away not slightly under a cloud. Did he anywhere acknowledge his own diminishing powers and how that has in part contributed to Liverpool not being the force they were?

Mo Salah is being called selfish and also caring about Liverpool with his “heavy metal” comments. It’s possible to be both, caring about himself and the club. One of Liverpool’s greatest ever players was making a legitimate point, and he has a right to. Salah could have delivered his critique to the hierarchy in private but he’s leaving, rightly so as the revered 33-year-old is not the force of old. He’s more string quartet than heavy metal. By posting his critique to his 62m followers on Instagram, Salah wants everyone to know how he feels - and how he feels a club he’s served so well and loves so much can re-find its way. Of course, it’s embarrassing for Arne Slot, especially when so many of Salah’s team-mates "like" the post (whatever their reasons). It heaps more pressure on the head coach. But the football overseen by Slot isn’t good enough at the moment. It lacks direction, intensity and authority. Salah is right. Slot has to focus most on ensuring Liverpool finish in the Champions League positions, rise above the criticism and give Salah the send-off a club legend deserves at Anfield on Sunday. #LFC

@TheNewsAgents @maitlis @lewis_goodall Do you really think this is going to change peoples minds about who they vote for? First you’d need to persuade vast swathes of people that Brexit has been a unmitigated disaster and those that voted for it don’t want to hear that.

@_Tommy_Pickles @SkySportsPL thats been happening all season, its the interferring/fouling the GK thats the reason for the fouls. everyone knows they are over protected. just because there are other things happening dosent negate the foul on the GK.

@henrywinter Taking away choice from the attacking team is not right. An option would be like in rugby union at a line-out, the team throwing in decides how many people to include. Either continue as we are, but more penalties given for infringements, or let attacking team dictate.

How to end the wrestle-mania scarring the Premier League? In all the fall-out to the (correct) VAR decision over the foul on Raya, some thought must now be given to stopping the free-for-all grappling at corners. Premier League and PGMO need to act on this embarrassment to the football it oversees. But how? More refereeing consistency would be a start. Operating a no-hands rule - as suggested by some - would be impossible. Contact will always happen in a crowded area. Darren Cann’s suggestion of no attackers in the six-yard box until the ball is played makes sense, as Cann’s suggestions invariably do. A working party of Cann, a former player and manager could easily advise PGMO on getting to grips with the grapplers.

Do you agree with Danny Murphy? 🤔 He says that, although Arsenal have been physical when attacking in the box through this season, officials have to look at this incident in isolation and that there should be "no controversy about it" ❌

@Mulvaney1Kevin @henrywinter I’m in favour of VAR, I agree there is a foul on the keeper but you are 100% right, many other fouls also being committed that are seemingly ignored, Rice being the most obvious.

@henrywinter Definite foul. As were countless others of rugby tackling attackers. Could pick out many across many teams. And yet VAR selectively chooses. Thats the fundamental problem. You cannot selectively interfere. Bin it. Leave it to the referee
