Garden birds are very, very beautiful. And because we see them more frequently, they shouldn't be taken for granted. Also, they can fly. I'm sure that makes them better than us. They can walk and fly. We humans aren't so special!

This is a special kind of friendship that can stay with you for a lifetime. When Tony met that little robin, he never expected they would bond for so many years 💖✨ But after years together, Bob suddenly disappeared. To honor him, Tony wrote a book titled ‘Bob the Robin’ — like a love letter to the bird and his affection for robins. After that, Tony continued making friends with other robins. 📹putman_and_robin

William Shakespeare ‘Are you sure That we are awake? It seems to me That yet we sleep, we dream.' One from last year. Last year was terrible for me. But painting these beautiful creatures goes a long way towards helping.

🚨 The Emperor Penguin is now officially endangered and have been added to The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Climate change is shrinking the sea ice they depend on to breed, and when it breaks too early, chicks drown before they even have a chance. Some colonies are collapsing completely. 🎦 Credit: Wild Nature.

Give A Shit About Nature

80% of baby birds brought to rehab are essentially kidnapped. There are two types of baby bird, and they need completely different responses: A nestling is naked or barely feathered and can't hop. It likely fell from the nest. If you can, find the nest nearby and put it back. The parents won't abandon it because you touched it. A fledgling is feathered and can hop. It may look helpless, but it isn't. Fledglings spend days on the ground after leaving the nest. Their parents know exactly where they are and are actively feeding them. "80% of baby birds that come in have basically just been kidnapped," says Melanie Furr of Atlanta Audubon Society. In general, the best choice is to leave them alone, move pets inside, and observe from a distance. Actually intervene when: • A cat touched it: even a mild scratch transmits deadly bacteria • You know the parents are dead • It has visible wounds or can't stand Much of the time, the best thing you can do for a baby bird is nothing.

These yellow fluffy kids are newly hatched baby pigeons. Their nest was removed, and we are now their parents. It’s a challenge to raise babies this age as they need an incubator and just the right formula and feeding technique. Fortunately, our baby guru Kaori is on the case. 📷: Stephanie Wood

Sad News Doug Allan, David Attenborough’s cameraman, has died in Nepal aged 74. Doug, who recorded footage for BBC programmes such as Blue Planet, was described as a ‘true pioneer of wildlife film-making’. He was a fabulous cameraman; after working as a research diver with the British Antarctic Survey, he became an expert in filming in some of the world’s wildest and most inhospitable places. You will have seen his work in Blue Planet, Frozen Planet and many more iconic Natural History series. He was wonderful man - full of love for the natural world, laughter, fun. He died doing what he loved. 🎥

Still one of the most extraordinary experiences I’ve ever had. I found a beached dolphin at 5:30 in the morning while I was alone on a beach in Costa Rica. It was surrounded by about six buzzards, ready to peck at its eyes, and it was squeaking and crying for help. For anyone who wants to call me weak or whatever, I’d love to see you move a slippery 275-pound animal while panicking for its life. A crazy, extraordinary, life-changing experience. This dolphin was communicating with me the entire time. I’m not sure how to explain it, but I knew it was grateful for my presence and grateful that I saved it from the buzzards. An insane, real-life experience I’ll never forget. 🐬 🙏 📹danielbarousse
