Hey YouTubers, I'm curious! Do those AI generated thumbnails with a gazillion things and little texts on them really work for your conversion? Have you A/B tested them? I'm genuinely asking, because all I see is cognitive overload.

“I don't see the need for another plugin in the same category unless it solves the problem differently or offers something genuinely new.” Agreed, but… Folks use the WordPress repo as lead gen and don’t necessarily care if their plugin does anything new/different. The difference in success from the repo standpoint might simply be that they’ve recruited people for fake reviews, which is also a problem.

Well, ever since Contact Form 7 decided not to add new features, we've seen a surge of new form plugins. I don't see the need for another plugin in the same category unless it solves the problem differently or offers something genuinely new. There could be a quality check to ensure that newly approved plugins bring something additional or meaningfully different from what's already available. With AI making plugin development much easier, anyone can replicate an existing plugin with minimal changes. As a result, we may see a flood of nearly identical plugins in certain categories. To prevent that and ensure WordPress continues to have quality plugins, not just more plugins, I believe a quality check is essential.

56.3% of WordPress plugins have fewer than 20 active installs (35,840 plugins). Only 2,227 plugins (3.5%) have 10K+ installs and 67 have crossed 1M+ installs. WordPress doesn't need more plugins, it needs quality plugins that solve real problems, are well maintained, and earn users' trust. Source: wp-rankings.com/statistics/

@KatieKeithBarn2 1. Buy 2. Refund 3. Go 6-12 months 4. Buy again under a different email 5. Update plugins 6. Refund 7. Rinse. Repeat. Might be worth tracking some IPs, but there’s issues with that too.

For $400 I can immediately own a copy of every premium Barn2 plugin and ask for a refund. If I recall correctly, you don’t lock the features when licensing is removed. I could then use AI to do what I need going forward or I can simply ride out the frozen version for months, or possibly years. When I posted recently about how AnalyticsWP has not provided an update in over a year, many, including WordPress developers, weren’t concerned by that. My point being that many people don’t view updates as a reason to maintain a subscription and when you pair that with subscription fatigue…yikes. So, I think this is due to little bit of everything, but with AI leading the charge.

WordPress Inner Circle On the latest episode of the Crossword podcast, @sirjonathan was given the challenge to mingle with 5 people at WordCamp US, who he had never met before. That’s an incredible idea. Outside of WordCamp, I’d like to see that same type of initiative for what I call the WordPress Inner Circle. These are well-respected folks that are heavily involved in WordPress and you see their names on things quite often. I’m mostly watching and partaking in conversations with WordPress folks on here, X/Twitter, so that’s what I can speak to. Which is to say I see the “inner circle” folks mostly communicating with each other, sharing each other’s stuff, etc., and it rarely goes beyond that. That’s what I see. It could be that others see things differently, given algorithms and such. There is a mutual follow between myself and these folks, so take from that what you will. But, this isn’t about me. When we talk about WordPress “aging out” and WordPress not reaching more of the masses, I feel this challenge could only help. So, the challenge is for the inner circle folks to “mingle” with 5 new people they have never mingled with before. A 30 minute video chat, DM exchange, some tweets, etc., to see what others are up to in WordPress, could really turn into something special. Let’s call it FIVE FOR THE FUTURE. 🤌

@KachiMbaezue @elemntor They lost touch with what got them where they are today, the builder. It has been bad for so long and they are making mistakes with the V4 development, rushing to catch up to other builders.

I'm so sick of this, @elemntor. I'm sick of everything you're doing. I wish I could wash my hands of you. I'm trying. YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT AGENCIES. You never have. THIS SHOULD NEVER BE IN THE DASHBOARD of my client's websites. Oh, and that, which looks to be an affiliate link over to @patchstackapp, c'mon. I thought you guys were done trying to satisfy private equity, and that's why you let people go. I never believed that for 2 seconds. @WPTutz

@rwkyyy @elemntor That's a whole different topic. Elementor v4 should never have been released out of BETA. My guess is they felt pressure to release something because they were being left behind and needed to get SOMETHING to their affiliate influencers.

@PineDigitalCo @elemntor I got another one. When you start editing any page in Elementor ver. 4+, you get a lot of bumps to enable a BETA feature! Of course if you enable it, disabling it will mean a lot of issues - I got one case, where the admin enabled it... funny story it was a store manager account!

Interesting. I do have a BD license as well, but that Etch investor license is really burning a whole in my pocket. No shade, but I’d love to transfer my account to someone. It’s more of a time thing for me, but I’ll also say the couple of times I peeked at Etch, it didn’t really click with me.

1000%. I posted about Angie the other day, as it was causing a conflict, and I never asked for it to be enabled. Rewind a few years: I went on a podcast with them talking about how they are not thinking of agencies when it comes to AI. Nothing has changed. In fact, they have doubled down. They provide "answers" like... "Well, you can turn AI off within individual user profiles." Now, at least, with our own AI tools, we can take care of stuff like this. But, the point is we shouldn't have to.

I would love to see the calendars of those making these decisions. There has to be a weekly recurring meeting titled... "WordPress Dashboard Upsell Brainstorm" with a description of... "Bring your best ideas. Nothing is off limits. The WordPress dashboard is our personal billboard space. Let's rock the sh** out of it."

@PineDigitalCo @elemntor Don't get me started! I posted about this 'enshitification' last week and recorded 2 videos (which haven't been uploaded (YET!)) on how bad the user experience is when installing Elementor. Oh, and don't you love a copy/paste apology? 🤦🏼‍♂️
