Really weirdly officiated game. And by “weirdly” I mostly mean badly and inconsistently.

@stevemagness @LoreofRunning1 Is there an increased risk of injury? Presumably the brain is putting the governor on for a reason, unless this is an evolutionary thing saving reserves for a famine or failed hunt or whatever, which makes sense.

Fascinating new research: You get a 3% boost in performance by taking a dissolvable carb strip. The catch? It delivers minimal carbs. Your brain gets the signal from sensors in your mouth that more carbs are on the way, so it loosens the reigns. A great example of how fatigue is regulated in the brain. You always have more to give: stevemagness.substack.com/p/you-always-h…

@TuckerGoodrich My question is what is the lie? If it’s “our threats are empty” and Tucker told Iran to push for a better deal on that basis, I get it. If it’s “we want to negotiate peacefully” and he passed that to Iran, he might have got played but that ain’t treasonous

@TuckerGoodrich but just Trump leveraging, and destroying, his credibility with Tucker and Tucker’s credibility to advance a message he’s already sending.

@TuckerGoodrich Wouldn’t an alternative reading of these facts, if true, be that Trump told Tucker, and Iran presumably, that he is negotiating in good faith and intends to avoid a conflict; Tucker also expresses that to Iran. That wouldn’t be a State secret or classified…

@JoeMulder The Matrix has to be moving up that list. Gotta be a lot of people in their 20s and 30s talking about being red-pilled without having actually watched it.

@bigfatsurprise @DrDBeech If he’d said there are promising medicines curing some people of schizophrenia would everyone have the same concerns?

But "speaking" is the essential task of his job. Being precise in conveying information to the public is the role. He does the opposite. He obscures, embellishes, misinterprets, stretches.
Nina Teicholz, PhD@bigfatsurprise

@FatigueMe92484 @SecKennedy He misspoke. The fact that symptoms can go into seemingly permanent remission is still incredibly promising and worthy of more study!

@TuckerGoodrich Especially if he’s advising on the benefits of products made by large, powerful industries. That his judgment gets clouded by access to power and prestige is particularly troubling. And that’s giving him the benefit of doubt.

@SenGillibrand So if it’s difficult for many people to live a healthy lifestyle should the solution be to advise unhealthy things?

@calleymeans @TheDemocrats I don’t really get the criticism. Even if healthy food were unaffordable for many, shouldn’t it still be recommended? If a daily pound of caviar were proven to prevent cancer, I wouldn’t be able to afford it but it should still probably be recommended.

Trump Derangment Syndrome has led @TheDemocrats to attack healthy food. They are actively defending government funded soda on SNAP, are nowhere to be found in work to improve school meals, + mocking public health messaging that real food is attainable for $3 (fact check: true).

@GoodwoodAlpha @simonmaechling Speaking of the scientific method, Francis Bacon was an attorney. Unclear if he’d have podcasted had it been invented at the time.

As we say in America, "follow the money." Science is a tool, not an ideology; the scientific method is something anyone can use. This includes lawyers and podcast hosts, and if you're not beholden to a money source, you can use it to find conclusions independently. I have firsthand experience with someone who worked in science, on her PhD dissertation. But when her studies came to a conclusion that her sponsors didn't like, she was kicked to the curb as though she were chattel.

Maybe I’m too much of a European, but I can’t understand how scientists became less trusted than lawyers or podcasters when it comes to medicine and public health.

@Gh0stFoot @calleymeans @bigfatsurprise Right. And this contradiction makes implementing this in school lunches difficult to impossible, which is really where the guidelines matter. I wonder what entrenched interest they weren’t able to overcome on this point.

@calleymeans I think @bigfatsurprise is the only person I've heard so far pointing out the irreconcilable contradiction in the new food pyramid: you cannot focus on eating more meat AND stay under the 10% saturated fat caps.

@maxlugavere @calleymeans But the guidelines also recommend any dairy be full fat, which I agree with and is inconsistent with the saturated fat message.

The idea that you can’t eat red meat and still land comfortably below the 10% saturated fat guideline is a flat-out lie. Here are 6 daily meal plans that incorporate lots of red meat, targeting 150 grams of protein and would get you leaner and healthier than 99% of the population. 🧵

@BiglawConsrvatv @stevemagness @Brady_H This is what matters to me. The picture with the pretty steak is great, and I do to some degree think the symbolic improvement is useful, but what are school lunches going to look like? That’s where the rubber will meet the road.

@stevemagness @Brady_H Haha by no means claiming expertise here so defer to you. Just figured if there’s any measurable impact at all in that respect there’s at least some marginal benefit to it.

This administration is myopic about food at the neglect of physical activity. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great change—altering the food environment and what we tell people to eat is a must. But *nothing* will move the lever on population health as much as getting people to move more. We are not talking about it enough.

An under discussed part of what makes Luka difficult is that I think the best strategy is to just play him straight up and live with him making tough shots. The trouble is he’s such a prick about it that it’s so hard to not sell out to stop him.
