The fortunate part though, is that i still do have the opportunity to play again if I wanted to. There's nothing really stopping me from going back and putting in the kind of effort I did in 2014 and prior. I have certainly taken a long enough to do so as well, but do i want to?

tldr 2014 was like a breaking point in speedrunning for me. The runs i cared about most (SMB1, SMB2, SMB2J, Marble Madness) I didn't even bother to try and reclaim at all, or for years, or gave a half-hearted effort which would all seem like absurdity to 2013 and prior me.

With Mario 1 i find how it played out a bit unfortunate for me. I held the any% world record almost continuously from 2005 to 2014 (15 to 24 years old). It just took too long to get beaten. By that point I was already satisfied with what I did, basically, though just shy of 4:57.
