BJP should stop claiming credit for KMTP!
Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) in Warangal was envisioned and executed under the leadership of former CM KCR to transform Warangal into a thriving textile hub. The foundation stone for KMTP was laid in 2017.
Five years later, the Central Government emulated the project and introduced the PM MITRA scheme.
The contribution of the BJP-led Centre to this project has been minimal.
Some key aspects of 1,357-acre KMTP👇
➡️ Thousands of Warangal weavers once migrated to Surat, Solapur, and Bhiwandi for livelihoods. KMTP was created to reverse this migration and revive the local textile economy.
➡️ The BRS government developed KMTP as India’s largest textile park under the 'Farm to Fashion' model.
➡️ The vision was to transform Warangal on the lines of Surat and Tiruppur.
➡️ Despite two years of COVID setbacks, industries like Kitex, Youngone, and Ganesha reached advanced stages.
➡️ These units are expected to create 25,000–30,000 direct jobs initially.
➡️ At the time, no comparable integrated textile policy existed elsewhere in India.
➡️ KMTP was designed to position Telangana as a national textile leader.
➡️ Direct employment may rise to 30,000–40,000 as production expands.
➡️ Indirect employment could be twice that number, transforming the regional economy.
Importantly, the PM MITRA scheme was introduced years after KMTP, clearly drawing inspiration from Telangana’s model.
Claiming credit for a visionary initiative conceptualized and executed by the BRS government, under former CM KCR and former minister, is simply unfair and misleading.
It was due to KTR’s efforts that companies like KITEX and Youngone chose to invest in Telangana and establish their facilities at the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP).
KITEX CEO Sabu Jacob stated that it was KTR’s persuasion and proactive approach that convinced the company to invest in Telangana. He also remarked that he had never expected such a warm welcome from a minister.
Youngone, too, decided to set up operations in Telangana after being impressed by KTR’s pitch inviting textile industries to the state during the Textile India Summit held in Gandhi Nagar in 2017.
In June 2023, KTR laid the foundation stone for 11 Youngone at the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park.
By 2025, the first Youngone unit had commenced commercial production and begun exporting T-shirts to global markets.
