WWE made the right call having Chad Gable win the gauntlet match to face Penta at SummerSlam. The story is already there. Gable has never won a singles title. He promised years ago that he would win the IC Title. SummerSlam is in his hometown. He even became El Grande Americano because he couldn't beat Penta. I really hope WWE leans into all of that on the road to SummerSlam because there's a genuinely compelling story to tell here.

Three WrestleManias (6, 18, 19), a pair of Royal Rumbles (2019, 2024), last year’s Survivor Series, the Showdown at Shea series. Don’t be surprised if they do more for their non-WrestleMania A-level PPVs.

Heck, the WWE games, something I had gotten almost annually since the original Smackdown vs. RAW, I’ve stopped buying, because of 2K’s utter MyTeam nonsense. I’m just so sick of what these publishers are doing, and the lack of competition certainly doesn’t help.

Maybe I’ll play CFB 27 when it’s bowl season & inevitably ends up on Game Pass, but I have yet to buy a single sports game (other than CFB 26) for years. Haven’t bought a Madden in over a decade, NBA 2K since ‘21, The Show for the last 2 years.

Gaming just feels like it’s getting worse and worse, but the sports genre might actually be the most abysmal. Between this by EA, the annual Madden junk, Sony’s regurgitation with MLB The Show, and 2K shoehorning MyTeam garbage everywhere, it’s all just awful.
