My weird sociological theory is the reason china has been so absurdly advanced with regards to visual art and fashion over the last decade was a reaction to censorship. The creative talent all collected in the visual arts because writing etc had limits. I think in the west the social cost of diverting from the main acceptable schools of thought and behavior is having a similar effect, wherein journalism and other pursuits have been drained of top talent and it's now consolidating particularly in fashion. (I actually think Chappel etc is p outspoken I'm not criticizing these ppl. I'm also a crazy pink Pantheress stan) I'm just saying - we're in definitely an absolutely unprecedented fashion renaissance at the moment, but it seems like it's coming at a cost. a lot of other art forms feel kinda muted right now.
