@umirf1 Easier to block the center in a 5-3-2 and force wide with the wingbacks jumping. 5-4-1 gives you better zonal coverage in the wide areas. I prefer a 5-4-1.

When blocking low what are the benefits of defending in a 5-3-2 to a 5-4-1? Feels like a 5-4-1 is preferential?

...people see Trent gone and call it transition, but what they miss is that Slot has been building a foundation that doesn't depend on any single player's genius and the teams that win things in February and March are never the teams that looked the most complete in August...

August, people look at Liverpool's squad and count the names and calculate the ceiling and convince themselves they understand what this team will be, but what they never see at the start of the season is the thing that actually determines everything, which is the...

...good is going too far. Szoboszlai and Trent being slept on is the actual crime in that conversation, not Mac Allister being rated.

I get you but Mac Allister was actually decent for what Liverpool asked him to do. He wasn't flashy but he kept things ticking and that's very hard to do in that system, the overvaluation came from people seeing the trophy and working backwards, but saying he was never that...

MacAllister summary. Masses last season would have told you he’s one of the best midfielders in the league and better than a Guimarães because he won a league title. Means nothing, he was never that good. People overvalued someone like MacA, and undervalued Szoboszlai & Trent.

@rajsinghchohan Elite recruitment is about about predicting who you'll need before you need them.

Top recruitment means top anticipation of changing variables. If you’re going after an in-demand player then you’ve got to put in the groundwork to woo him and his reps at least 12-18 months before you actually sign him. That means you need to have 12-18 months anticipation of A) what may happen to your older players in terms of decline/leaving the club, B) what may happen with your younger players in terms of being ready to take a bigger role in the team, C) what system the coach may want to switch to. All of this can potentially change what player you will target.

@HendrickD82 @rajsinghchohan I know where Ruggeri's delivery is weak and why Cardoso matters more than his name suggests: ChatGPT would've given you a Wikipedia summary, I gave you a scouting report.

@rajsinghchohan ...spatial intelligence that is rare in defenders, and the reason clubs are circling is that his profile is exactly what the modern high line possession based system requires from a CB and there are fewer than ten players in Europe who do what he does at that level.

@silkyplaymaker ...Enrique trusted his system completely and the system delivered, Arbeloa trusted his players individually and got a different result but against a Bayern side that is tactically identical, the philosophical difference between the two approaches has never been clearer.
