Supervising Deputy Attorney General, Adjunct Law Prof, Dad. Connoisseur of nuance. Opinions my own, obviously. But, housing policy = climate policy.

@Kazanjy If Cal wants to admit 34 top students from a high school that serves everyone, and not punish them just because the school isn’t reputable, then who are we to cast doubt? Your original post implied the 34 weren’t deserving by making a false equivalency.

@Kazanjy Not everyone at Mission applied to Cal. The data is right there. So you’re assuming that the 76 kids who applied to Cal (to which 34 were admitted) are also, collectively, only 42% reading proficient. Guess your logic ain’t as strong as your rhetoric.

45% of the UC Berkeley applicants from Mission High School, a school with 42% reading proficiency, get admitted because the UC isn't an institute of higher learning any longer, but instead is now another form of welfare.

@Kazanjy I think it’s laudable that an open admit public high school is educating kids from all walks of life, and shouldn’t be ridiculed for doing so. It’s easy to educate kids if you self select them. Not so easy to prepare kids for Cal AND juco.

I'm sure there are multitude of reasons why Trump 2.0 is happening. But this op-ed best encapsulates the signs of our times. Good luck, y'all. nytimes.com/2024/11/08/opi…

@DeanBaker13 @HC_Richardson Very true. But also, let’s not discount the fact that the economic recovery only lifted some, not all, households. And voters will, fair or not, always blame the incumbents for that.

Surfing on Election Day. A tradition only skipped in 2016. Praying this will not be captioned, “The sunset of democracy.”

If voters were voting based on policies alone, Harris would win by a landslide. When voters are asked about policies without a candidate's name attached, there is much larger support for the policies of Harris. But then, when asked who they thought the policies belonged to, voters often gave Trump credit for Harris's policies that they like. This even included aspects of the bipartisan border bill which Trump directly had killed. And Trump's most popular policy? Eliminating the tax on social security benefits. But here's the thing. That policy wouldn't actually make a meaningful difference for most SS recipients, but would deplete the SS fund years faster. It is a bad policy that doesn't solve the problems with SS, it worsens them. We have an extremely under informed electorate and while Democrats share some of the blame for not doing a better job of making their positions clear, a larger share of the blame goes to the media who is doing a terrible job of informing the public about policies, positions, expert analysis, and the dangers of Trump's plans. The majority of Americans are going to cast their ballot without understanding what they're voting for.
Justin Wolfers@JustinWolfers

Focusing for a moment on the POLICIES at play. Voters were asked whether they supported 100 different policies, but weren't told whether the policy was from Trump or Harris. Nearly all of Harris' policies got majority support from the public, and... 🧵

@EthanEvansVP Very similar breakdown running legal teams. Except for the famed Amazon short narrative memo. Any best practice tips for neophytes?

I was asked to describe my typical day as an Amazon Director and VP. My answer was short: “meetings.” That was accurate, but here I will go into more detail. This is a day in the life of an Amazon VP.

Never in doubt, but still a drag on time and taxpayer resources. Which is why AB 1893 and AB 1886—2 nonjudicial remedy reform bills—are so important.

Housers with law degrees. This is as close to practicing law without a client as you can come. Because your client simply wants what you've been clamoring to your non-houser friends about. Stop bothering them. Make new friends here at the DOJ. calcareers.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/Jo…

@DaveDologite We can’t expect a city to provide amenities if we kill its greatest source of revenue. Dear residents, won’t you come out to (work and) play, please?
