[Major Announcement] After hearing that Subnautica 2 sold over 2 million copies within 12 hours, we held an emergency meeting today. Due to our dismal sales projections and terrible wishlist numbers, we have made the difficult decision to change Earth Atlantis 2 from a shmup into an open-world underwater survival game with crafting and base-building. This is heartbreaking. It’s a huge loss to the craft of game-making. When those legendary dev teams are disbanded, so much knowledge, DNA, and technique are lost forever. That’s why we will never see the greatness of the past return. Many old game companies are now just shells of themselves, filled with new teams and management. Perhaps only Nintendo has managed to preserve its knowledge and DNA. We are so grateful to you @akio_1963 and to all the pioneers and revolutionary developers at Irem / Nazca Corporation. Your contributions to game art and design are enormous—truly inspirational. Thank you. We would never have decided to make Earth Atlantis 2 in pixel art.... and killing ourselves in the process.... if not for In the Hunt / Kaitei Daisensou, we played 30+ years ago. We truly believe you can bring that magic back again with Black Finger Jet. Looking forward to it.

We’re nowhere near experts — and Earth Atlantis 2 is actually our first pixel-art game. But one thing we can say with confidence: there are two of the pinnacles of pixel-art visuals in video games that are incredibly hard to replicate—the aesthetic of Metal Slug (Irem/Nazca) and the classic works of Bitmap Brothers. They’re incredibly unique. You might be able to create something that looks similar at first glance — but never all the way. Capturing that style takes deep understanding, real skill, and years of experience. We’d happily pay $100 for Xenon 3, Gods 2, or In the Hunt 2—if they were made today with the exact original art style and quality, in modern high definition. But that will probably never happen. Most of the key original creators —like @akio_1963 —have long since moved on… and some kinds of magic just can’t be recreated. #RetroGaming
