I taught at NYU Abu Dhabi for 8 years and it’s a school like no other. It’s devastating to see this. When people hear I taught in the UAE they usually assume I taught rich kids. There were some of those but the vast majority of NYU Abu Dhabi students are the best of the best students from their home countries who get scholarships to come. It was a regular thing to have students who grew up poor in Nepal or Ukraine but they were geniuses who nailed standardized tests and recruiters found them. Many go back home and bring their education to their home countries.

A barbaric aspect of Israel's war on Gaza was its bombing of universities. It's tragic to see the American/Israeli war replicate that with attacks on universities in Iran, with Iran now threatening to also attack American university outposts in the Gulf. nytimes.com/2026/03/30/nyr…

People in a village in Manipur had to walk sometimes up to 2 days to reach a hospital. Villagers requested a road many times, but the government had ignored the demand for over 30 years. Then a newly appointed IAS officer, Armstrong Pame, promised to help and build a road. He asked the government for funds → No response. Instead of waiting on hope, he created a Facebook campaign and raised ~₹40 lakh through crowdfunding. Donations came from contributors across ~25 countries. He himself contributed ₹5 lakh from his own savings. He and the villagers themselves built a 100 km road in ~210 days. The road is named “People’s Road”. The government has crores for freebies, but no money for remote villages, because it is never urgent for them.

Delighted to share that @Reuters has won India’s most prestigious journalism honour — the Ramnath Goenka Award — for business reporting for the investigation that revealed how Apple supplier Foxconn rejected married women from India iPhone assembly jobs because they had more family responsibilities than unmarried women. The story had immediate and lasting impact. Modi's government called for an investigation within hours of the story being published, and the women's wing of Modi's party, India's human rights agency and opposition parties all reacted to it. The story became a major talking point on TV news and talk shows, as well as in newspaper editorials. Indian labour officials visited the Foxconn factory as part of the probe. Foxconn changed its policy: the company quietly tweaked its hiring protocols. It ordered its hiring agents who helped recruit iPhone assembly workers to remove age, gender and marital criteria from job ads. For some Indian women, a job building iPhones is a ticket out of poverty. Between January 2023 and May 2024, Reuters made more than 20 trips to Sriperumbudur. We also reviewed a candidate information pamphlet, dozens of job ads and records of WhatsApp discussions in which four of Foxconn’s third-party recruiters stated to prospective candidates that only unmarried women were eligible for assembly jobs. 🙏 It was an important story. Apple is positioning India as an alternative manufacturing base to China. India PM Modi sees Foxconn’s iPhone factory and Apple’s broader supply chain as helping the world’s most populous country move up the economic value chain. With @PraveenR_P, @MunsifV. Special thanks to our editor for the project, David Crawshaw. @ReutersPR

My Open Letter to the Chief Minister of #Uttarakhand For years, I have been concerned and disturbed at the collective apathy and abject outcomes on the waste management front in our state of Uttarakhand. Over these years, like countless others, I have repeatedly advocated for a serious systemic approach to fix what is badly broken. Since we have hardly seen any improvements, I have once again decided to pen my thoughts and shared a few actionable suggestions for our Chief Minister, Shri @pushkardhami. I am sharing this open letter with the hope that we can all add our weight behind this public cause and do our bit to make our surroundings, villages, towns, forests and cities neater and cleaner than what they are today! share.google/J5QhTaNCqZ2r9B… Thank you @CitiesQuestion for providing a platform to voice my opinion. #HappyEid

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇱🇮🇷 HOLY SHIT: Joe Kent just revealed the last thing Charlie Kirk said to him: “The last time I saw Charlie Kirk on this Earth was in June, in the West Wing. He looked me in the eye and he said: 'Joe, stop us from getting into a war with Iran.' And then he’s suddenly publicly assassinated and we’re not allowed to ask any questions about that? The investigation that I was a part of [with] the National Counterterrorism Center, we were stopped from continuing to investigate. But there was still a lot for us to look into that I can’t really get into. We know, because of the text messages that have been made public, that Charlie was under a lot of pressure from a lot of pro-Israel donors.”

I coulda lived without knowing what Banksy looked like but as far as I can tell he's a dude who tried to put his money in the places it could go to help people, even as he made insane amounts of money on his work.. It's cruel to shove a camera in his face and mock his appearance.

Outside Kandivali Station (Mumbai), you will spot this couple selling breakfast items in the morning. Ankush and Ashwini do not do this for themselves, nor do they face any financial hardship. You might find it hard to believe, but this couple, who sell breakfast from 4:00 AM to 9:30 AM, are MBA graduates and hold well-paying jobs. Every morning, they sell food prepared by their 55-year-old domestic help (cook), handing over all the earnings to her so that she can fund her ailing husband's medical treatment and ensure her children's education continues smoothly, without having to seek financial assistance from anyone else. Located near Sarovar Restaurant just outside Kandivali Station, their food cart offers breakfast staples, such as Idli, Pav, Bun Maska, and Poha, at affordable prices; moreover, at this stall, you will also receive a sense of peace and a smile of selfless service, absolutely free of charge.

I love my country very much but truth be told, there is way too much garbage on the streets. Feels like vomiting sometimes but entire stretch sometimes in kms is just garbage dump. This is common amongst all cities under different administrations.
