Ekiti’s Spelling Queen Has Conquered Africa. At just 14 years old, Adeolu Oluwadamilola Ooreofe has magnificently spelled her way into the history books by winning the prestigious 2026 African Spelling Bee in the Junior Category held in Harare, Zimbabwe. Building on an already impressive track record of excellence. Second place in the 2023 MTN Spelling Bee, second in the 2024 Ekiti State Spelling Bee, fifth in the 2025 African Spelling Bee, and second in the 2025 Nigeria Spelling Bee. She first dominated the Ekiti State qualifiers, secured second place at the national level in Port Harcourt, and then outshone brilliant young minds from over 20 African countries to claim the ultimate continental crown. With remarkable poise, sharp intelligence, and unwavering focus, this young star from St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ado Ekiti, has proven that consistent dedication turns dreams into dazzling reality. As the newly crowned African Junior Champion, she received a $5,000 educational scholarship and is now set to proudly represent Africa at the World Spelling Bee in China later this year. Today, Ekiti celebrates a true shining light and global ambassador in the making. Heartfelt congratulations to the incredible family that nurtured her dreams and the dedicated teachers whose guidance helped shape this champion. Your unwavering support has written this beautiful success story. This victory fills every Ekiti heart with immense pride and unstoppable joy. This achievement shows the Ekiti State Government’s commitment to strengthening education whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va… #education #spelling #africa

2026 IWD Celebration | Tuesday, 17th March 2026 I had the privilege of commemorating the strength, resilience, and enduring contributions of women across Ekiti State at the 2026 International Women’s Day gathering held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion. As I reflect, I must note that this celebration has now become a defining yearly tradition, an intentional platform for recognizing and elevating the voices and achievements of women in our state. Guided by this year’s theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” alongside the advocacy call, “Give to Gain,” I am reminded that investing in women is not merely a moral obligation but a strategic imperative for sustainable development. Across all Local Governments, I observed women confidently showcasing their economic contributions and societal impact. Their elegance was further expressed through the beautifully adorned adire fabrics, tastefully tied by women and youths trained at the Adire Ekiti Hub, symbolizing a fusion of cultural heritage and economic empowerment. I am particularly encouraged that, under the leadership of H.E, Biodun Oyebanji, deliberate policy frameworks continue to prioritize women’s advancement through education, enterprise, and social protection. It is my considered view that we must sustain this collective commitment across government, stakeholders, and citizens to dismantle systemic barriers and foster a society where every woman and girl is empowered to thrive. #IWD2026

When pensions are delayed, lives are put on hold. Since taking office, I have committed ₦25 billion to pension payments, reaching over 10,000 pensioners between October 2022 and October 2025. Every payment is a reminder that decades of service to Ekiti are never forgotten. This is a continuous exercise, and we will keep working to ensure our retirees receive their entitlements consistently and with dignity. After a lifetime of dedication, security in old age is not a favour, it is a right. This is governance that remembers, honours, and cares. Ekitikete #BiodunOyebanji #BAO #GreaterEkiti

Ado-Ekiti | GBV | Thursday, 15th January, 2026 It was a pleasure to receive members of the Gender Mobile Initiative (GMI) in my office, as part of our ongoing engagement with stakeholders committed to gender equity and social justice. I sincerely commend the Initiative for its laudable efforts in promoting gender equality and advancing the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence within our society. The visit created a valuable platform to strengthen collaboration, particularly in areas that align with our collective resolve to protect and empower women, children, and other vulnerable groups across Ekiti State. During our interaction, I shared the vision behind the Widows, Orphans and the Hopeless (WAOH) project, an intervention that continues to provide support through scholarships, educational materials, food items, and other welfare initiatives aimed at improving lives and fostering a more enabling learning environment for our children. I was especially encouraged by GMI’s commitment to donate educational materials and their expressed plans to support the Gender-Based Violence Management Committee (GBVMC) over the next three years. Such partnerships are vital to strengthening advocacy efforts and ensuring improved outcomes for survivors and marginalized persons. I once again appreciate the Gender Mobile Initiative for the visit and for the honour of presenting me with an Award for Impactful Leadership.

It was a historic day in Ekiti as we received commercial flight operations commenced at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, witnessed by all my predecessors in office and other distinguished Nigerians. Watching the United Nigeria Airline aircraft touch down for the first time with former Governors Niyi Adebayo, Kayode Fayemi and Ayodele Fayose as well as the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and many other dignitaries alighting from the aircraft, filled me with gratitude to God and pride in what this milestone represents for our people. This airport opens a new chapter for Ekiti. With over N49 billion invested across administrations, this facility will strengthen our agricultural value chains, support exports, expand access to markets and create new opportunities for investors, farmers and young professionals. Our goal is to connect Ekiti to the world and unlock the vast economic potential of our state. I appreciate all my predecessors whose efforts contributed to this moment. I acknowledge H.E. Dr Kayode Fayemi @kfayemi who inaugurated the airport during his tenure and advanced the work to a substantial level, laying the foundation that enabled us to complete the outstanding phases and open the facility for full commercial operations. I also recognise former Governors Ayodele Fayose and Segun Oni for their roles at earlier stages of the project. My gratitude goes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu whose economic reforms freed resources that made completion possible. I thank Aare Afe Babalola for his extraordinary support through the donation of critical navigational equipment and other facilities, and the Minister of Aviation for his partnership. I also appreciate United Nigeria Airlines for choosing to partner with Ekiti at this pivotal moment. To the people of Ekiti, this airport belongs to you. I encourage our entrepreneurs, farmers, business leaders and young professionals to seize the opportunities it brings. With improved air connectivity, Ekiti is ready for bigger dreams and greater prosperity.

ADO EKITI | Tuesday 25th November, 2025 In continuation of our commitment to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of Ekiti women, I joined medical professionals, advocates, survivors, and hundreds of Ekiti women at the Funmi Adunni Olayinka Diagnostic and Wellness Centre, EKSUTH, to raise awareness on breast and cervical cancer, two diseases that remain major threats to women’s health. I appealed to our women to prioritize their health and avoid social habits that can put their wellbeing at risk. I told them their health is priceless and that early detection remains the most powerful step they can take to protect themselves and the people they love. This is why the Ekiti State Government is offering subsidized mammograms and subsidized cervical cancer screening because access to lifesaving care should never be a barrier. In further support of this goal, I sponsored 100 women for mammograms, 200 women for cervical examinations, and also covered surgical care for four children presenting with lumps. Every act of support brings us closer to a community where early detection becomes a culture, not an exception. I sincerely commend the incredible team at the Funmi Adunni Olayinka Diagnostic and Wellness Centre for their dedication to screening, medical checkups, counselling, and follow-up care. Their work continues to bring hope to families across our state. My appreciation also goes to my darling husband, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his dedication to the welfare and wellness of Ekiti residents, especially women.

I joined my brother governors from the Southwest in Ibadan for a crucial meeting on the security situation in our region. We undertook a careful review of recent developments and agreed on practical measures to strengthen the safety architecture across the six states. Our shared goal is to keep our communities safe, protect lives and property, and ensure that our region remains stable and secure. We will continue to work together, coordinate closely with federal security agencies, and take every necessary step to safeguard our people.
