He was white, Afrikaner, middle-class — the son of Beeld editor Johannes Grosskopf — raised in a conservative Johannesburg suburb and educated at an Afrikaans boys’ school.
By 1986, he had concluded that apartheid was extreme, brutal, and indefensible, and left South Africa to join the ANC in exile.
After MK training in Angola, he returned alone.
On 30 July 1987, after rush hour, Grosskopf detonated a car bomb outside the SADF Witwatersrand Command Drill Hall in Johannesburg — the Witwatersrand Command headquarters of the SADF.
Twenty-six people were injured, including both soldiers and civilians.
After the bombing, the state sealed off central Johannesburg and launched a nationwide manhunt. Grosskopf escaped and returned to the ANC underground.

The Government of Zimbabwe intends to introduce a Statutory Instrument prohibiting medical aid societies from owning medical service providers such as clinics and pharmacies.
Beyond being anti “open for business,” this move risks decimating the medical insurance sector in the same way policy and monetary instability destroyed confidence in the pension sector. The real problem is not vertical integration by medical aid societies. The real problem is hyperinflation, currency instability and the collapse of confidence in our monetary system. Medical insurance has simply found a way to work around that dysfunction.
The proposed SI will likely lead to a sharp increase in medical fees and it is customers who will suffer most. The doctors and pharmacists lobbying for this measure are being anti-business and ultimately, acting against their own long-term interests. A better response would be for them to come together and establish medical aid societies that can rival the existing players.
If we destroy medical aid societies, customers will not suddenly rush to private doctors and pharmacies. Many will simply stop using formal doctors and pharmacies altogether, as we have seen in parts of Africa where medical aid systems collapsed.

South Africa played a pivotal role in securing the African Union’s permanent seat at the G20. An achievement meant to elevate Africa’s collective voice on the global stage.
There are signals real or perceived that it could now be sidelined in key engagements linked to the 2026 summit .This raises serious concerns about consistency and fairness.
If global governance spaces like the G20 are truly committed to inclusivity, then participation cannot become selective or politically convenient.
Africa’s representation is not symbolic. It must be respected in both presence and influence.
As a continental body, the African Union is expected to stand firmly behind its members.
Silence or ambiguity in moments like this risks undermining the very unity that secured its place at the table.
The question is not just about one country. It is about whether Africa’s voice is genuinely valued, or conditionally accommodated.

Israel does not target journalists. On April 22, Hezbollah terrorists violated the ceasefire in Lebanon and endangered IDF soldiers. After countless warnings including in this specific area Hezbollah operated, the IDF acted to neutralize an imminent threat posed to IDF soldiers. The IDF is reviewing reports that journalist Amal Khalil, who was present alongside the terrorists during their operation, was hurt in the strike. Israel targets terrorists and regrets any harm caused to those not involved in terrorist activity.
