@HattersHeritage The Pink 'un had been around since 1893. They were sold out of Park Square and on Saturday evenings the paper boys were mobbed as soon as they came out of the building.

A short but interesting piece on the history of the Green 'Un paper. Who remembers getting their copy on a Saturday evening?

@HattersHeritage It was our first competitive win having lost the first game in the F.A. Cup the previous 3 seasons - no league until 1894 (Southern League) and no other cup competitions until 1889 (the Kettering Charity Cup.)

Luton and Reading have been frequent opponents throughout the years, with the first 'official' meeting dating back to an FA Cup game in 1888 which Luton won 4-0, with JC Lomax and Lionel Thring among the scorers. Reading were somewhat disadvantaged by only having 10 players.

@HattersHeritage November 1889, LTFC v St. Albans at Dallow Lane - "F. Whitby.. endeavoured to add to the count, the last named missing an easy chance through being blinded by smoke of a passing engine."

Just for fun, an anthem loosely based on the tune popular after the First World War - "We're a Jolly Lot of Fellows.." 🎵For we come from Luton Town, where they burnt the Town Hall down🎵

@kevlennon1 @LutonNews_LTFC Makosso is purely a defender who works best in a back 4 - height, pace, recovery, never give up attitude, niggly, whack it away from danger. In a possession based back 3 he is hopeless due to his lack of control, awareness of, accuracy and weight of a pass.

@LutonNews_LTFC Let’s get him concentrating on his strengths, i.e. defending rather than trying to turn him into a ball playing defender. It’s like putting Fanne in the 10 when he must be one our worst finishers. But your point re JW 💯 spot on

Makoss is having a very hit and miss time of out there. A couple of good forays out of defence mixed in with some poor passing and then is far too easily dispossessed, before getting back to cut out Palmer's cross-shot. On this evidence you can see why JW has preferred others.

Is Dawid Gawel the second Polish player to play for us after Jaroslaw Fojut? Or have there been more?

@LutonTownExile It’ll be March before Ade gets to match sharpness as he need to take it slowly with setbacks permitting - according to Alan Shearer’s recovery from the same injury.

Very early 2026 will see us get Elijah Adebayo and Ali Al-Hamadi on the pitch. That excites me. A lot. Two players with things to prove who are both capable of delivering. Both believe they should be playing much higher. I’m really looking forward to seeing them both show why.

@sonic_sinclair @LutonNews_LTFC Sweet said in the recent Brache interviews that he sets and oversees the transfer process and is responsible for the budget as CEO. He recruits the recruiters who follow data led recruitment which has not given us any captains, leaders or fist shakers.

Luton CEO Gary Sweet on how 'integral' meetings have taken place ahead of the upcoming January transfer window. Targeting improvement within the squad to give the Hatters every chance of achieving promotion to the Championship in May. lutontoday.co.uk/sport/football…

@LTFC_screech @LutonTownExile Spot on. Makosso didn't fit the back 3 because JW played the possession game out from the back. Makosso is an out and out defender so a back 4 is perfect for him. A back 4 gives us an extra man in midfield who can pass.

Genuinely mystified by Makosso’s absence. He HAS to have repeatedly broken protocols or done something very serious. Either that or he’s going to a Championship club or a European Europa League club next week. Madness.

@Larrick023 @philhull56 @LutonTownExile The fact that JW didn't know, mid Dec, if he would be involved in Jan shows that it hasn't been talked about - not when he was recruited or since. Old managers use to say when sacked that at least they did it their way so no grumbles. Getting sacked for data led recruitment tho

@PlaiterStraw @philhull56 @LutonTownExile You sure he said that? I took it that at that point in time it wasn’t on his ‘radar’ but he expected to be involved when the time came. If I was JW, I’d wait til there was a short list before giving an opinion whilst adding those who I wanted to be looked at to it.

All I want for Christmas is a leader on the pitch. Two would be better but I’ll take just one. It’s that easy to fix our malaise. Has been since we lost Locks. A snarling, nasty, scary, winner. Why can’t anyone see it? Pay them double what anyone else is on.

@philhull56 @LutonTownExile It's clearly data led, GS said so at the recent interviews at the Brache. DW said in November last year we would sign captains in Jan 2025 - didn't happen in Jan nor in the Summer. That was under RE and MB. And JW doesn't know if he'll be involved in Jan 2026 signings

@PlaiterStraw @LutonTownExile No that’s opportunity signings - I’d surmise Bloomfield didn’t ask for leaders or, like Graeme Jones, ignored the data

@LutonTownExile Spot on. The data led recruitment plus the "crocks R us" policy that's given us the likes of Baptiste on a 4 year contract has been a disaster. Not confident about January at all - which is a tweaking window not a major overhaul window.

@PlaiterStraw Exactly. Data is fine in the PL because every player at that level has to be a snarling leader to survive. It’s blindingly obvious. It helps massively if the manager is that type (ie NJ) as they see it more clearly in others. I thought Saville might fit the bill but nowhere near.

@philhull56 @LutonTownExile A week ago Wilshere said he didn't know if he would be involved in the transfer process in January - that's a scandal. Under RE, MB and JW no captains/leaders have been signed to replace Lockyer and co. That's data led recruitment.

@PlaiterStraw @LutonTownExile I disagree - the manager’s role is to give analysts the attributes and positions he’s looking for - leadership is a key attribute. As I’ve said before, it’s not the analysts that are the problem - it’s the “opportunity” signings that are 💩
