Celebration of the 135th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (2026)
The 135th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, was celebrated with great fervour and grandeur at the SAIL-Salem Steel Plant (SSP). The celebrations were organized over several days and comprised a blend of academic, sports, and cultural activities, reflecting a holistic tribute to his enduring legacy.
1. Pre-Event Competitions and Sports Activities
The celebrations commenced on 5th April 2026 with a series of creative competitions aimed at encouraging community participation.
Creative Arts Competitions:
A Rangoli competition was organized for housewives of employees & CISF Personnel. In addition, drawing competition was conducted for students of Sri Vidya Mandir (SVM) School and School students of employees studying in other schools covering participants from LKG to Class XII. Also, Fancy Dress competition for KG Students was conducted. These events provided a platform to showcase the participants’ creativity and talent. Participation prizes were distributed on the spot to encourage all contestants.
Sports Activities:
The Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Cricket Tournament–2026 was conducted from 9th to 12th April 2026, promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie among the participating teams.
2. Celebrations at the Stainless Culture Centre Open Auditorium.
Cultural Programmes were held on 13th April 2026 at the Open Auditorium.
A key highlight of the event was the presentation of the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Meritorious Service Awards – 2025, which recognized and honoured employees for their outstanding performance, dedication, and contribution to the organization.
This was followed by a formal prize distribution ceremony for the winners and runners-up of the cricket tournament and Rangoli, drawing & Fancy Dress competitions.
Also, the audience was further enthralled by a captivating performance by a professional orchestra.
3. Floral Tribute and Formal Observance
On the morning of 14th April 2026, the celebrations assumed a solemn and devotional tone with the rendering of bhajans.
Shri R K Bisare, Executive Director (SSP), along with Chief General Managers, HoDs, senior officials, representatives of various unions and Associations, paid floral tributes to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar statue located at the Stainless Cultural Centre.
The celebrations were conducted successfully and stood as a fitting tribute to the ideals, vision, and invaluable contributions of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar towards building an inclusive and equitable society.

As part of Swachhata Pakhwada and the Fit India Freedom Movement, a 7s Football Tournament was conducted for employees on 23rd March 2026 at Hill View Stadium, with enthusiastic participation promoting fitness, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle.
Quiz Competition
Knowledge-based activities help enhance awareness and encourage learning on important aspects such as health, cleanliness, and safety. They also promote active engagement among employees.
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada and the Fit India Freedom Movement, a Quiz Competition was conducted for employees on 25th March 2026, witnessing enthusiastic participation and promoting awareness on cleanliness, health, and fitness.
Fit India Office Olympics
Workplace fitness initiatives encourage employees to stay active, improve well-being, and build a culture of health and teamwork. Such activities enhance engagement and promote a balanced lifestyle.
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada and the Fit India Campaign, the “Fit India Office Olympics” was successfully conducted on 26th March 2026, with employees enthusiastically participating and showcasing their fitness and creativity through video submissions, reflecting strong team spirit and promoting health awareness across the plant.
Cycling Rally
Cycling is an eco-friendly and healthy activity that promotes fitness while supporting environmental sustainability. It also encourages community participation and awareness.
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada and the Fit India Freedom Movement, a Cycling Rally was organized on 27th March 2026 in the presence of the Executive Director, CGMs, and senior officials, with active participation from employees, SVM School students, and CISF personnel, adding vibrancy and community spirit to the event.
Dramatics on Single-Use Plastic
Creative activities like dramatics are effective tools for spreading awareness on social and environmental issues. They engage audiences and convey impactful messages in an interactive manner.
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada and the Fit India Freedom Movement, a dramatics programme on awareness against single-use plastic was conducted on 27th March 2026, effectively highlighting the importance of reducing plastic usage and adopting eco-friendly practices.
Swachhata Talk
Awareness sessions play a key role in educating individuals about cleanliness, hygiene, and health, helping to build responsible habits in daily life.
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada and the Fit India Freedom Movement, a Swachhata Talk was organized for canteen staff on 29th March 2026, where participants actively engaged and expressed their commitment towards maintaining hygienic practices in the workplace.
Ambulance Points Initiative
Timely access to emergency services is essential for ensuring safety and preparedness in any organization. Proper identification and availability of medical facilities play a crucial role in emergency response.
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada and the Fit India Freedom Movement, ambulance points were established at various locations within the plant premises on 24th March 2026, ensuring easy identification and quick access to ambulance services during emergencies.

As part of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, Salem Steel Plant reinforced this commitment by administering the Swachhata Pledge on 16th March 2026 under the leadership of the Executive Director. Senior officials, employees, and CISF personnel participated actively, reflecting a unified and leadership-driven approach towards maintaining cleanliness and a healthy work environment.
Cleanliness Drive
Clean surroundings are the foundation of a healthy and productive life. Maintaining cleanliness not only improves our environment but also reflects our collective responsibility towards society.
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, Salem Steel Plant took a proactive step by conducting Cleanliness Drive on 16th March 2026 at Stainless Sculptor Roundana. The initiative was led with active involvement from senior leadership, including the Executive Director, CGMs, HODs, along with CISF personnel and employees, demonstrating a strong top-down commitment towards creating a cleaner and greener workplace.
Student Competitions
Engaging young minds is key to building a sustainable future. Competitions help students express their ideas and create awareness about cleanliness and environmental protection in a creative way.
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, Salem Steel Plant took initiative by organizing Drawing, Essay Writing, Elocution, and Waste to Wealth competitions for school children at SVM School from 17th to 20th March 2026. The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, highlighting the importance of nurturing awareness and responsibility from a young age.
Anti-Single-Use Plastic Drive
Reducing single-use plastic is essential for protecting our environment and ensuring a cleaner future. Small changes in daily habits can lead to a big impact.
As part of Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, Salem Steel Plant carried forward this initiative by conducting Awareness Drive against single-use plastics on 21st March 2026 across the SSP Township.The activity involved distribution of pamphlets to residents, emphasizing the need for eco-friendly practices and sustainable living.
Swachhata Pakhwada 2026, a fortnight-long initiative, covered the range of above activities from 16th March to 22nd March 2026. Activities for the second week will be shared tomorrow.

Quenching Thirst, Spreading Kindness
Event Name: Summer Water Feed for Birds & Pets

Location: Central Avenue & Residential Sectors, Salem Steel Township
Category: CSR / Environmental Awareness
As the summer heat intensifies, our feathered friends and domestic animals often struggle to find clean drinking water. In a heartfelt initiative led by the Salem Steel Ladies Circle, we have launched a "Water Feed" campaign to support local biodiversity.
Our President, Dr. Amita Bisare, led the team—including Secretary Mrs. Sangeetha, Joint Secretary Mrs. Anamika, Vice President Mrs. Revathi, and Committee members Mrs. Navya and Mrs. Ramya.
The team was also supported by Mrs. Kamal Priya (AGM/WCE), Mr. Saravanan (Senior Operator), and Mr. Nandakumar (Supervisor, Civil). Together, they placed strategically designed water containers across the township’s green belts, aligning with SAIL’s broader CSR mission of environmental sustenance.
The Township Administration and the Horticulture Department played a vital role in this initiative, with Mrs. Kamal Priya (AGM, WCE) key to coordinating the CSR efforts. The team installed water bowls at approximately 20–25 key locations, providing a lifeline for peacocks, dogs, cows, birds, and monkeys during the scorching summer.
Thereby we Support Ecosystem, Protect and maintain the local bird and animal populations.
This small act of kindness was highly appreciated by the local community.

Tournament held at Durgapur Steel Plant, showcasing exceptional teamwork, strength and

With two strong victories, SSP entered the Semi Finals and continued their winning
momentum in style.

The team then marched confidently into the Finals.

With this impressive victory, Salem Steel Plant (SSP) emerged as the Champions of the SPSB
Kabaddi Tournament-2025-26.

Salem steel ladies circle Women's Day Celebration on 08.03.2026 at Bharathi Arangam
International Women's Day was celebrated with a great enthusiasm. The event aimed to promote gender equality and acknowledge the vital role women play in our community.
The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by our President Smt.Dr.Amita Bisare followed by a prayer song.
Our guest of honour, Executive Director R.K. Bisare, was given a warm welcome with a rose bouquet, followed by an inspiring speech on women's empowerment and the achievements of Salem Steel Plant.
After a screening of Madam's achievements, she delivered an inspiring and motivating speech that left the audience amazed.
On this occasion, a few mothers were honoured for their dedication and resilience in raising their children successfully despite difficult circumstances. Special recognition was also given to single mothers who work as daily wage earners and are striving hard to provide good education for their children. The first uniformed services woman from Cuddalore was also honoured during the ceremony.
A major highlight was the cultural segment where SVM CBSE School students showcased their talents through dance performances, and speech on English and Tamil.
The PowerPoint presentation, which showcased the various stages of our Ladies Circle memories, was very touching. The children’s folk dance, the women executives' dance, the girls' group dances, the solo singing, and the stage play were all very entertaining and well-received by the audience.
In honour of the guests, mementos were presented to all of them. All the members, participants, and guests were served small refreshments as a token of appreciation.
The celebration was a resounding success, fostering a sense of solidarity and mutual respect. It served as a powerful reminder that empowering women is essential for a progressive society. The event concluded with a vote of thanks.

As part of the International Women’s Day 2026 celebrations, women employees of Salem Steel Plant (SSP) actively participated in an online interaction with the Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) and Directors of SAIL on 07 March 2026.
The programme was organized to recognize the invaluable contributions of women employees across various units of SAIL and to encourage greater participation of women in organizational growth and leadership.
At Salem Steel Plant, the interaction was arranged at the HRDC Board Room, where Executive Director, Salem Steel Plant, joined the session along with women employees from different departments. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from both executive and non-executive women employees, reflecting the strong presence and growing role of women in the plant’s workforce.
During the interaction, the Executive Director, SSP appreciated and encouraged the women employees for their dedication, commitment, and significant contributions to the progress and performance of Salem Steel Plant.

A proud and significant highlight of the evening was the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Certificate Distribution ceremony at Salem Steel Plant.
A total of 115 participants from our contract workforce successfully completed the assessment process and received their certificates, formally validating their skills and hands-on expertise gained through years of experience.

The Salem Steel Plant (SSP) collective is proud to announce the launch of India’s First Plastic Welding Course under the CSR Initiative, marking a pioneering step towards skill development and sustainable livelihood generation in the field of plastic fabrication and polymer technology. Aligned with the Government of India’s Skill Development Mission and national manufacturing growth objectives, this initiative aims to bridge the skill gap in the emerging field of plastic welding. The programme is designed to empower unemployed youth, economically weaker sections, and aspiring technical professionals with industry-relevant skills.
Plastic welding technology is increasingly utilized across sectors such as infrastructure, water management, construction, automotive, chemical industries, environmental engineering, etc. Despite its growing industrial relevance, structured and certified training in this specialized domain has been limited.
Introduced for the first time in India under the CSR initiative of Salem Steel Plant, this Plastic Welding course aims to benefit the youth of Salem District and Tamil Nadu by equipping them with specialized technical skills and enhancing their employability in national-level industries. The initiative reflects Salem Steel Plant’s continued commitment to community development, skill empowerment, and nation-building through sustainable CSR interventions.
The Skill Development Course on “Plastic Welding” was inaugurated on 23.02.2026 under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme of Salem Steel Plant at Government Polytechnic College, Vanavasi, Salem. The programme is being conducted in association with TN Apex Skill Development Centre for Automobile (TN AUTOSKILLS), Chennai, Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC),Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai and District Skill Training Office, Salem District.
The function was inaugurated by Shri R. K. Bisare, Executive Director, Salem Steel Plant, in the presence of senior officials including Shri Shailendra Kumar, Chief General Manager (Mills & Services), Shri Manas Rath, General Manager In-charge (HR), and Shri K. Distribution of essential nutrition supplements to HIV-positive pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers in Salem district in association with Ramakrishna Mission Charitable Dispensary. This initiative aims to provide essential nutritional support to improve maternal health and reduce the risk of mother-to-child transmission.

SAIL Foundation Day | Walk & Run 2026
On the occasion of SAIL Foundation Day, a 5 km Walk & Run was successfully organized on 24/01/2026 at Hill View Stadium, Salem Steel Plant, promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle among school children, employees and their dependents, retirees.
The event commenced at 07:25 AM with the unfurling of the SAIL Flag by Shri R. K. Bisare, Executive Director, SSP, followed by the SAIL Anthem and oath. The Walk & Run events were flagged off in phases, including a special flag-off for ED, CGMs, HODs, and DROs, reflecting leadership participation and encouragement.
With nearly 700 enthusiastic participants, including kids and veteran retired employees, the event truly showcased the unity, inclusiveness, and spirit of the SAIL family.

Salem Steel Plant Organizes Distribution of Free Aids and Appliances for Divyangjan
Salem Steel Plant under CSR initiative organized a “Distribution of Free Aids and Appliances for Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan)” on 05.01.2026 at the District Differently Abled Welfare Office (DDAWO), District Collector Office, Salem, in association with M/s Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), in connection with International Day of Persons with Diabilities.
Shri R. Rajendran, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Dr. R. Brindha Devi, I.A.S., District Collector, Salem, graced the programme. Shri R K Bisare, Executive Director, Salem Steel Plant along with senior officials of Salem Steel Plant, distributed the assistive devices and interacted with the beneficiaries, in the presence of officials from ALIMCO and Salem District Administration.
During the programme, 49 Ready-To-Use (RTU) assistive devices were distributed to 25 beneficiaries. The distributed aids included Motorized Tricycles (Li-ion), Manual and Attendant Wheelchairs, Elbow Crutches (L), Rollators (S), TLM Kits (7–11 age group), and Cerebral Palsy Wheelchairs.
Earlier, Assessment camps were conducted by ALIMCO on 19.12.2025 in co-ordination with the District Differently Abled Welfare Office, Salem, to identify eligible beneficiaries.
This initiative reflects Salem Steel Plant’s commitment to social responsibility and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
