The next book was RF Kuang’s fantasy dark academia novel, Babel. Oxford University is complicit in the British Empire’s brutal exploitation; only a small group of foreign scholars can stop it. Liked the militancy; didn’t like the constant hammering home of the point. Way too long

@21percentgroup Ah yes, that happened to me: accused of bullying, disrepute and intention to breach my contract. On an account that never names me, my institution or managers. Most charges beaten, one upheld. Several people accused of running the account before they got to me.

Shocked and saddened to hear such news. I had the pleasure of being taught by Gerry and I found him to be a funny, humble man who exuded the very warmth of humanity. A memory I am particularly fond of is his lectures on Modernisms - which were imbued with his unique quirks.
