Teddy Sheringham at Colchester United, 2007 Eight years earlier he had scored a stoppage-time equaliser in the Champions League final. He went on to win the treble with Manchester United, play in two World Cups, and become one of the finest forwards England has ever produced. In 2007, aged 41, he signed for Colchester United in the Championship. He scored on his home debut against Barnsley, then scored again the following week at Preston. He was the oldest player in all four divisions of the Football League. He finally retired the following year, aged 42, after Colchester's last ever game at their old ground, Layer Road. Not a bad way to go out. #Football #PremierLeague #MUFC #ColchesterUnited #FootballTwitter #Throwback

David Beckham at Preston North End, 1995 In March 1995, a 19 year old David Beckham was convinced his Manchester United career was already over. Fergie had sent him on loan to a Preston side sitting in the fourth tier of English football. He earned £50 a match-day bonus. He left his dirty kit on the floor for someone else to clean. One of his new teammates was a 31-year-old David Moyes. On debut against Doncaster, he came off the bench and scored direct from a corner. The week after, he curled a free kick round the wall against Fulham that he'd later call one of his all-time favourite goals. According to father's autobiography, Beckham asked Ferguson if he could stay. Fergie slammed his fist on the desk. "You're not f***ing well going anywhere." The rest is history. #Football #PremierLeague #MUFC #PNE #FootballTwitter #Class92 #DavidBeckham

Frank Lampard at Swansea City, 1995 At 17, a chubby kid from Essex with a brand new driving licence jumped in his Ford Fiesta and drove four hours down the M4 to join a struggling Swansea side in Division Two. He played 9 games, scoring his first ever professional goal against Brighton, in front of a couple of thousand fans watching a team flirting with relegation. His Swansea teammates later recalled he was "a little bit overweight" and would "always get the ball onto his right foot." Six years later he signed for Chelsea for £11 million. He went on to become the Premier League's all-time top scoring midfielder with 177 goals. #Football #FPL #PremierLeague #Chelsea #WHUFC #SwansCity #FootballTwitter

Here’s one for you: if you could pick a starting lineup consisting of the same player eleven times, who would you pick? Our money’s on Wayne Rooney.

It’s 29 years to the day since Chelsea’s kit man forgot their away strip, forcing them to wear Coventry’s second shirts. 40-year-old Sky Blues’ player/manager Gordon Strachan also picked himself, as his side won 3-1. An eventful night at Highfield Road.
