Now that the dust has settled, here’s the real story behind Eberechi Eze’s move to Arsenal🔴⚪️ Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta first introduced Eze to Mikel Arteta, who was immediately impressed and eager to secure his signing. As exclusively reported in early July, Arteta sought internal references — including from Declan Rice — and every report came back glowing in Eze’s favour. Meanwhile, Tottenham had also been pursuing Eze. Newly appointed coach Justin Cochrane maintained regular contact with the player’s camp, attempting to persuade him of Spurs’ project. However, Eze’s priority was always Arsenal; he dreamed of playing at the Emirates. At one stage, Arsenal’s interest appeared to cool, especially after the signing of Noni Madueke. The stance from Arteta was clear all the way through the summer: Eze was wanted, but he would be the final signing of the window and things needed to happen internally for a deal to be done. Spurs, sensing an opportunity, tried to move quickly once James Maddison suffered an injury. Negotiations accelerated, and Eze was open to the move — though he and his representatives knew that if Arsenal re-entered the race, Tottenham would have little chance. Complicating matters further, Crystal Palace insisted that Eze will play their Europa Conference League playoff before they would sanction any transfer. Over that weekend, reports emerged suggesting Eze would be left out of the league opener against Chelsea. However, manager Oliver Glasner convinced him to feature. Then, fate intervened. Kai Havertz picked up an injury, prompting Arsenal to reignite their pursuit of Eze. From that moment, the outcome was inevitable. Arsenal made their move — and the rest is history.
