All afternoons flooded with sun—
at Grandmother’s knees, a warmth that smelled of wheat.
My head, hard as stone,
rested upon that warmth;
and my dreams, one by one,
rose from those knees.
Before I turned twelve,
every day—every hour—
the air drifted with something sweet.
Grandmother—my world—
all the feeling of my life was warmth.
My rough, stone-scraped life
was lifted in her equally rough hands;
and that—
that was my velvet.
The afternoon sunlight was very far away,
the kind of far you cannot reach—
I could only gaze.
I am a rough stone in this world;
Grandmother’s warmth
made me jade.

I’m not chasing anyone
The moon soars
the stars leap
You run ahead of me
I don’t wish to run
The flowers
have bloomed thrice
New buds
have grown into branches
The garden stretches
beyond sight
And I cannot see you
I don’t seek to see anyone
The wind rushes
toward me
The rain hurls itself
at me
The red dust rolls in
threatening to drown me
I long for
a heart to be my refuge
I don’t need the seasons
With you
the world is spring
But I cannot stop

In corners veiled
where sun has never shone
A starless sphere
to silent ruin flies
The storm and wind
to tempered steel grown
Strike at the soul
where dark desire lies
Confusion blooms
as dust through heaven strewn
A silver haze
that blinds the midnight air
Yet you
Yes
only you
beneath the moon
With but one glance
make all my spirit fair
My soul
as blossoms in the springtime
rise
The sky
washed clean to crystal
pure and new
I
light as feathers
cast in azure skies
Ascend through clouds
and soar
to meet with you
and ask
no home in view

Mist drifts slowly through the granite peaks of Huangshan, where towering cliffs appear and disappear like a living Chinese ink painting. Walking among the clouds feels like stepping into a fairyland, with a different breathtaking view around every corner. #Huangshan

My silence rides the wind,
brushing softly past your ears.
Your breath, scented with ripened wheat,
settles over my loneliness.
All the helplessness in this world
gathers into my questions—
and you
are the only answer I have.
Your silence wanders through time,
unaware of my following.
I know everything bears its fractures,
yet you have none.
Time washes away the painted dust of desire.
Between ice and fire—
you and I—
is it dissolution
or rebirth,
laying down
the deep color
of a life.
