This past weekend, I got to meet one of New York Times bestselling authors; it was quite an experience listening to his tech talk, and I even have my book signed! It’s been a remarkable read, so I’d highly recommend checking it out! @Pogue

@Pogue @ShawnChittle @tim_cook @tomhanks @Apple @ComputerHistory @stevewoz @gregjoz @SJArchive @9to5mac @applenws @appleinsider Hey, no fair. I showed that exact same 1978 belt buckle in a photo when I received your book, too!

A special 50th birthday message for Apple from me, including my own version of… one more thing.

So, last weekend I lost my phone. As soon as I realised it, I opened Find My and marked it as lost, which disables Apple Pay. I then entered a contact number to be displayed on lost phone screen. I punched in my partner’s number, saved it and played the sound. Almost immediately, my partner got a call from the person whi found it and we organised a handover for later in the day. Throughout the day, I kept getting updates with my phone’s precise location. I felt really reassured throughout the whole process. A big win for the Apple watch in my book.

The Apple Watch is a big motley bag of random features--and turns out everyone uses it completely differently. In today's free “Pogue’s Posts” column, I'm showing you how I use it. The comments are fantastic.

@In4mationOverld @webmaster_major You kidding? Your tweet was BRILLIANT! Whatever it was... :)
English

@webmaster_major @Pogue Yeah, I don’t even remember what I tweeted. 😂
It was when Twitter was still in its infancy. (Far less competition)
Must have been good enough for him to take notice.

@Pogue This shows you how bad A.I. really is: I asked Grok to put your new book beside what was my first Apple computer, a //c. It got neither the computer nor your book, correct!!! 🤣

English

@webmaster_major Ouch! Yeah, we need not fear an AI takeover of humanity quite yet! :)

@danicamclellan @gregsandiego Yes, it's a per diem. Or, rather, this is the category that the company says we should use for claiming our per diems. Like I said: Absurd.
English

@Pogue @gregsandiego So that’s not a per diem. It’s expense reimbursement. You have to provide a justification because they need to know on what basis the expense is eligible for reimbursement. The justification is “business-related travel more than 50 miles from home”. Copy and paste.

@LukeGundy FWIW, I’ve really been enjoying @Pogue’s Apple: The First 50 Years.
English

@Pogue was gracious and visited our Mac user group. Highly enjoyable and informative presentation!

@suyashlunawat12 @bhatnaturally I learned that from the comments. GAME-CHANGER!!
English

@Pogue @bhatnaturally You don't need to type in the passcode to unlock it. The next whatever time you unlock your phone it automatically unlocks the watch. It's available in passcode section of the "watch" app on the phone.

Tim Cook is stepping down as @Apple CEO. New CEO is John Ternus (currently head of hardware engineering). The only surprise was the actual date! cnbc.com/2026/04/20/app…

@Pogue Watched @CBSSunday on DVR today. Man it was like the Pogue show! Awesome! All the best to you always 💯🙏🤩💪🧠🌟🏅🏆🙏🍀😊🤗☮️💖🦋🎈🌈✨♾️
English

@danicamclellan @gregsandiego Yes, these are all for travel. They reimburse for meals consumed on business-travel trips more than 50 miles from home.
English

@Pogue @gregsandiego Well it depends why the employer was reimbursing you for it - because of travel? Because you worked late? Because they required you to work offsite somewhere that you couldn’t have brought your own meal for whatever reason? Presumably they don’t reimburse all meals that you eat.
English

@Pogue @kcdragon_ That explains it. Oracles gives its "expense management system" free with the ERP software. So, corporates just chose to use it instead of a better system. The people who are making these decisions do not have to submit their own expenses.. other people still do it for them.
