@kavakava662660 @SkinnyTuna That, and universal pre-K so that "ungiffted" students are capable of handling alternative/accelerated pedagogy. Class structures where students can self select into accelerated coursework is also good, as opposed to it being gated by a test.

@kavakava662660 @SkinnyTuna The common idea is that gifted education in general involves pedagogy that would benefit all students. They get the shiny toys and the cool projects that other students don't get. Ideally all students would receive the same interventions

so wait was the “gifted kid” thing just a more polite way of cloistering all the ADHD kids away from the normies

@anotora_ @SkinnyTuna You guys are incapable of looking stuff up!!! The research on this subject widely supports this, the concept of gifted children was invented by eugenicists!

@SkinnyTuna Oh, yeah, fun bit --- one of the leading scholars in pursuit of the identification of "giftedness" in the United States, Lewis Terman, was a prominent eugenicist!

@SkinnyTuna No it was for rich kids whose parents made them do extracurricular activities.

@ligmathong @SkinnyTuna Yes, I was enrolled in gifted classes throughout my primary and secondary education and my anecdotal experience confirms this. The research suggests the same, if you'd like to look into it.

@kavakava662660 @SkinnyTuna AP is not a gifted course in the same way most people talk about it, it's self select and a totally different thing. You do not need to test into AP courses.

@PointyFingShoes @SkinnyTuna GATE never required any sort of extracurriculars, it was mostly based on standardized test scores and grades in elementary school. Rich kids just tend to do better on standardized tests. I was a poor and lazy kid (literally zero extracurriculars) and they shoved me in GATE.

@denimneverdies @breadophile100 @SkinnyTuna Gifted education is literally just better pedagogy exclusively for parents who were able to invest in their kids education outside of school enough for them to be able to pass the gifted exam. I knew plenty of bright kids who couldn't test in because they were poor

@breadophile100 @SkinnyTuna Yeah the fun thing about neurodivergence is that you can wind up in either gifted or special education because the one thing you can't be is neurotypical

@EmbiidAmputee Every pepe pfp replying to Sridhar has the same millennial cadence, I can't tell if it's because they are all in fact millennials or if they're just conversing in autistic dialect. Probably the latter? The sopranos pfp guys are definitely autistic
