I'm not sure if you're being purposefully obtuse here so I probably won't engage any further I assume you've already read the verses I cited above if you're asking for references The idea that you shouldn't look down on poor people coming to worship God doesn't mean "don't treat people differently based on their dress" Everyone knows, whether implicitly or explicitly, that clothing often communicates a message If someone dresses like a police officer, you treat them like a police officer If someone dresses like a doctor, you treat them like a doctor If someone dresses like a prostitute, you treat them like a prostitute I haven't read any scriptural verses which would lead me to believe that God wants us to completely ignore whatever messages are being communicated by the way someone chooses to dress

In response to this tweet, I've received two types of replies. One where ppl cite Matthew 22, where a king threw a man out for wrong clothes. Another where people cite James 2, which says you should treat ppl equally, regardless of clothes. What is the Christian position?

@jules_steward @DrNeilStone I don't know what Amish country you grew up in, but there's tons of autism in the Amish communities in KY. The local Amish also have lots of untreated illnesses, genetic disorders from inbreeding, & atrocious lack of dental care.

Posts like this blow me away. Do these people ever think about the unwanted kids that were produced for millenia, simply because safe, effective contraception didn't exist? I don't have kids because I don't want them, end of story. It's not about being able to afford them.

@DavidSHolz People had kids whether they could afford it or not, because they didn't have access to birth control. Many women died in childbirth, children did too, and died young from disease. If you want kids go ahead. But don't tell others what to do.

The rules are extremely strict because the risk of rejection is extremely high. This is not a new policy. So maybe let’s break it down by era and class structure: Pre- industrial societies (ancient times - 1700s) • In agrarian and hunter-gatherer societies, women worked alongside men to sustain the family. • Women farmed, ploughed fields, harvested crops, tended livestock, and participated in trade. • In hunter-gatherer societies, women gathered and often hunted small game—providing a substantial portion of the diet. • Domestic work (childcare, food preparation, textile production) was labour-intensive and essential for survival.
