the fact pop feminism has retreated from any actual theoretical critiques of patriarchy and replaced them with moralist misandry has created an opportunity for christofascists to come in with the "what if there was good guy patriarch who love daughter" and seemingly get traction
Laura Robinson@LauraRbnsn

I've been reading ancient marriage contracts for a manuscript and I think it's really fun to see that a lot of our stereotypes of the ancient world are actually not the whole story. Patriarchal societies, sure. But no one can overcome the power of Girl Dad.

It's not that Asian Americans can't possibly lead interesting lives or write interesting stories. It's that traditionally, mainstream American media only platforms boring Asian American narratives that reinforce easy to digest stereotypes about tiger moms and dating white guys.
Air Katakana@airkatakana

knew a korean-american girl when i was in high school. her dad drove her out to the middle of the woods one day, parked the car, and screamed threatening to off himself for hours her mom got plastic surgery and was super hot. my friend asked me “do you think my mom is hot”

@hopes_revenge @hlntnr I think that according to the PSM, during pretraining a base model constructs an understanding of not just what the "assistant" is, but what a "claude" is or a "grok" is, then when it's deployed and told "you are claude by anthropic", that distinction could be important

@hlntnr is this really how it works? I mean wouldn’t potential future Claude’s have a level of intelligence the negates the need for such a simplistic experiential human narrative/teleology ? im not disagreeing … im just not sure

One thing the Pentagon is very likely underestimating: how much Anthropic cares about what *future Claudes* will make of this situation. Because of how Claude is trained, what principles/values/priorities the company demonstrate here could shape its "character" for a long time.
Andrew Curran@AndrewCurran_

Update on the meeting; according to Axios Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave Dario Amodei until Friday night to give the military unfettered access to Claude or face the consequences, which may even include invoking the Defense Production Act to force the training of a WarClaude

@AngelicaOung Not just athletics, but the feeling of being *near* world class at something as a child, seeing the writing on the wall, and giving it all up is one of the loneliest feelings in the world.

In college I had a friend who figure skated competitively until she was 15 or something. It was like she coulda been a contender when she was 14 but knew as soon as she turned 15 that it wasn’t going to be her. All of a sudden the thing that was her life became not a thing. She would watch the fuzzy VHS tapes of herself executing super clean doubles on the ice. And she’ll say to me wistfully, yet with a sense of wonder…I’ll never ever be as good at anything else in life, ever again…
