@milfluvrrrrrr @th0ush4ltn0td13 @1800clockit I know it's a real thing, it doesn't change the point I'm making. Sexuality getting reduced to an aesthetic performance means people who don't conform to it are treated as less queer, and claiming things like carabiners signal sexuality is heavily dependent on location and groups

@Poisonimpulse @th0ush4ltn0td13 @1800clockit it's not stereotypes, it's intentional flags & signals that people choose to incorporate into their style in order to signal to other members of the group. many different groups do this, not just gay ppl. queer fashion history is a genuine field of study bc we've always done it.

something not being acknowledged about the “can you dress gay” debate is how many straight women have started dressing like they’re gay

@th0ush4ltn0td13 @1800clockit Exactly, when people reduce being queer to being a list of stereotypes you tick off then that leads to people treating people who don't conform to the stereotypes as inherently less queer And that's ass backwards

@1800clockit I mean, clothing does not define sexual orientation,I thought that's something we get taught??. tbh, what is even dressing up gay. I have seen straight men dress up flamboyant back in the 80s Idk, I'm a straight girl and I find fantasy hair colors good on me, I'm confused/gen.

@RealityBent All the people who are arguing that being attracted to both cis and non-binary people means someone isn't monosexual aren't realizing that heterosexuality would be a multisexual, and therefore queer identity by that definition.

The same way that the bi in bisexual doesn't mean that bi people can love non-binary people, the mono in monosexual doesn't mean that monosexuals can't love non-binary people.

@MontaukJoyce If being attracted to both cis and trans people means someone isn't monosexual then the same thing applies to straight people, and multisexuality is a queer identity. And yes, I do think there are some lesbians who are bisexual but call themselves lesbian.

@Poisonimpulse @violet_octopi How am I saying straight people are queer? Do you know what queer means? You're saying lesbian and bi are the same thing and labels don't matter then why do you try to make a differentiation between lesbians and bi women? Why using monosexual at all if there's no difference to you

I don't understand people who call lesbians "monosexual," because either you're saying lesbians cannot be attracted to multiple genders, or defining bisexuality as inherently including men

@MontaukJoyce @violet_octopi No, homosexual attraction doesn't stop being homosexual attraction just because of what label someone chooses for themselves. Humans are attracted to humans, not labels. If that's what your argument is then you're saying heterosexuality is a queer identity.

@Poisonimpulse @violet_octopi So lesbians who date non-binary people are actually bi because they experience hetero attraction? A woman is not a non-binary person, that would be "different". That's exactly what I don't understand. By that definition, we're all bi

@MontaukJoyce @violet_octopi Because the hetero in heterosexual means different, not opposite. And how do you define what the "opposite" gender is for nonbinary people?

@Poisonimpulse @violet_octopi Can you explain how someone who experience both heterosexual and homosexual attraction not include men? You keep saying this but I don't see your point at all since in both cases it would include attraction to men in a way or another

@violet_octopi @MontaukJoyce Monosexuality refers to hetero or homo attraction, lesbian refers to homo attraction, bisexual refers to hetero and homo attraction. Arguing that attraction to cis and trans people are two different forms of attraction means arguing that heterosexuality is a queer identity.

@Poisonimpulse @MontaukJoyce But by your logic, a bisexual who is attracted to multiple genders (not incl. men) can be monosexual, if lesbians attracted to multiple genders are! You keep changing the goalposts tho, first it was about biphobia now it's about "modes of attraction," so i will stop engaging. bye

@violet_octopi @MontaukJoyce The bi in bisexuality referring to heterosexual and homosexual attraction is perfectly logically coherent while also not inherently including attraction to men.

@MontaukJoyce @violet_octopi And if you make the argument that being attracted to trans people means you're not monosexual then you're also making the argument that heterosexuality is a queer identity because it also includes attraction to trans people

@MontaukJoyce @violet_octopi Because mono doesn't refer to one gender, it refers to a mode of attraction, just like how the bi in bisexual doesn't refer to men and women, it refers to heterosexual and homosexual attraction

@MontaukJoyce @violet_octopi I don't believe that being attracted to trans people is different from being attracted to cis people, it's the people who are arguing that lesbians aren't monosexual because they're attracted to trans people who believe that.

@violet_octopi People focus too much on the mono part of monosexuality, it's the same misunderstanding people have with bisexual and thinking it means men and women, when the bi refers to heterosexual and homosexual attraction.

@violet_octopi That's what's happening when people are claiming lesbians aren't monosexual for being attracted to multiple genders. If lesbians aren't monosexual then heterosexuals are queer. It's just not useful to be that granular with how genders are defined.
