Creating is fun because I can control the outcome; watching sports is fun because I cannot.

@TheJobIsDone But even as someone who tries to work hard and well because that's the right thing to do, my motivation and motivation level changes from day to day, week to week.

@TheJobIsDone My experience is it's true outside sports too, at least in the technical disciplines I've practiced. I'm sure there are fields where money motivates people but I don't want to work for, with, or have work for me ppl like that. I do want people who work hard cuz that's what you do

I still think the Nuggets have it in them this year. But like Wemby's fuelled by passion, Shai by strategy and Luka by spite, Jok needs to have something possessing him right up to the finish line. Big Honey has an unstoppable yet optional dominance. What will get him going?

@milehigh_malone @SwipaCam Yeah that's rash. I didn't put too much weight on what we saw in his rookie season (other than the fact we actually had some fun, finally!) same as I wouldn't write him off due to poor play in his first year. Too many QBs that looked good as rookies have been fools gold...

@PoissonianDist @SwipaCam That’s true but my point is it wasn’t his rookie year and he was missing throws that we had seen him make during his rookie season. So I felt better play would come. So for me Bo was off and was holding the offense back but I never thought “Bo was trash” like swipa said

This narrative about Bo Nix not being a gunslinger or being the kind of QB than can carry any offense is so funny to me because we have tape of Bo Nix doing exactly that vs every good team they played this year with limited offensive weapons. The Broncos defense vs the Colts, Chargers, Jaguars, Packers and Bills didn’t play very well but the Bo did.

@milehigh_malone @SwipaCam based on the data is healthy. Now maybe Swipa was a bit rash (I personally got very frustrated and was close to wanting him benched at times, but tried to keep perspective on the role I'd seen for this past season & his development... But it was hard at times!).

@milehigh_malone @SwipaCam Personally I expected him to struggle, many QBs do in their sophomore season. I wanted to see how he came out, was willing to give him a season long pass so long as he showed good signs and looked like he was trending up. He did more than that. @Sealoseal To pick themselves up, it takes quite a bit for me to see them in a positive light again, not just greeting someone. That said, I noticed Embiid approached Nikola which is a positive sign. I haven't closed the book on him by any means.

I wrote code a while back to do exactly what a jr engineer needed to do. Jupyter notebook demonstrating how to use the code. Pointed him to the documentation, the code & the notebook. Even after all that, he asked if he could upload the sensitive data to AI to do it instead.

most couples break when they start keeping score instead of building a system that actually works for their reality. fairness in parenting rarely looks symmetrical… it looks like trust that the other person is carrying their part somewhere. every house solves the night shift differently.

@mliversage @wozat @kawecki_maciej Point is: PNG is a great compression format for certain kinds of images. JPG (or similarly intentioned formats) is great for other kinds of images. To say "just use PNG!" is to accept horrible compression for—or horrible-looking, if you reduce the color space first—photographs.

@mliversage @wozat @kawecki_maciej Sure. So in practice, the only way to get much if any compression with png for a full-color photograph is to first reduce the number of colors in the image before encoding it as PNG. (No need for, e.g., a screenshot since usually those only represent a few colors anyway.)

The whole world needs to know about this! Seriously. We all know JPG (or JPEG), the digital format that shrunk file sizes and changed how we store photos forever. It’s the reason the world fell in love with sharing images. But now, it’s being replaced by JPEG XL. And it’s time everyone realized that the mastermind behind it is Polish. This is the story of a brilliant Polish mind. Dr. Jarek Duda is arguably the only living Pole whose scientific method is embedded in billions of devices across the planet. He developed a data compression method called ANS (Asymmetric Numeral Systems), which is now a standard component in modern electronics. Because of ANS, websites load faster, devices use less energy, and our internet bandwidth is used much more efficiently. It’s already baked into products from Apple, Facebook, Google, and the Linux kernel. He could have been a billionaire. But he chose not to patent his method, and to this day, he says he has no regrets. He believes that by keeping it open, his work has changed the lives of millions, perhaps billions of people. Even so, there is a deep sense of injustice in how he’s treated, hardly anyone remembers that he is the true father of this technology. Even though companies like Google and Microsoft have tried to patent the ANS method as their own, I want to use this post to set the record straight and give credit where it’s due: to a Polish genius. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone as humble as Jarek. But this isn’t just a story about the past. For years, Jarek has been working seven days a week, starting at 7:00 AM, on a solution that could revolutionize quantum computing. Jarek, I hope you keep that incredible drive going. Thank you for your time. We cannot let this name be forgotten. A Polish scientist has fundamentally changed the course of technological history. @duda_jarek

@KalleSorbo "this is the worst SNL has ever been. I long for the golden era"... And it turns out the "golden era" being referred to is from 2-10 years prior to now. And I'm old enough that I remember hearing the exact same gripe about every one of THOSE "Golden era" casts. So I just laugh.
