Steven asks a very interesting question here: When’s the last time a Pokémon card was printed exclusively in English? Here’s the answer in quite a bit of detail. Most exclusive cards are Japanese exclusives, which makes sense. However, English exclusive cards date back all the way to 2000. The first example, technically for a period of time, was Dark Raichu from Team Rocket. (Picture 1) The TR secret rare was originally an English/WOTC exclusive. However, it was produced as part of the TR set for other languages as well, making it more of an “international exclusive”. Although, it was later printed as part of the Neo Series in Japanese as well. Beyond that, there’s maybe a couple of true examples from the WOTC era. One obvious selection is the Legendary Collection set. While all of the card arts are reprints from prior sets, the Legendary Collection symbol (and fireworks reverse holo pattern) cards are exclusive to the English language. Additionally, Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge were only printed in Japanese and English. So, for the censored cards from these sets (ex. Misty’s Tears), the changed artwork is exclusive to English. (Picture 2) There’s also the English World Championship No. 1/2/3 cards, these just aren’t available to the public obviously. I do believe the most recent public English exclusive card is the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat, released in 2023. The next most recent English language exclusive cards may be the Futsal cards from 2020. Released as part of a kit for youths joining the 2020 futsal program in England. (Picture 3) However, the coolest example would have to be the Corocoro English exclusive Jumbo Base Set Charizard. Again, the card art has been seen before, but the card itself is a unique jumbo version! (Picture 4) It was released with the April, 2000 copy of Corocoro magazine in Japan. And I believe this is the ONLY language exclusive card released in a country where its primary language was not the language the card was printed with (unless you count Ancient Mew).

Yes, it’s very expensive now. But when’s the last time a card was printed exclusively in English?

@_bismack_ Yup. I get people’s frustration, it makes a ton of sense. But until there’s this collective agreement to not pay well over MSRP while cards are still being printed, things will continue to be inflated.

Just not going to pay $100 for a regular ETB of a set that is actively being released. I don't care if that's under market price. Not giving any corporation double MSRP for Pokémon, rather just buy more cards. Learn to miss out on things. Have principles, stick to them.

Randomly found these two Topsun Pokémon cards in my backpack Did you know that even though the copyright date is listed as 1995, these cards weren’t released until 1997. This was after the original Base Set cards came out in Japan

Pokémon Pop-tarts feel incredibly nostalgic ✨ There were a ton of other Pokémon branded foods from the late 90’s/early 2000’s that people went crazy for too

Lots going on today on the Pokémon TL. Days like these make me take a moment to reflect, and I have just a couple things I want to say: A) Thank you, to every single person that interacts with my content and/or anyone who appreciates Pokémon. I have found a community of people who enjoy a hobby and area that I love, and I couldn’t be more thankful. B) I try very hard to make content that resonates with fans, and also is engaging for those with less exposure to Pokémon. I strive really hard to be authentic and genuine. So thank you again to everyone here who also strives towards authenticity and supports it. C) We all have an ego to some degree, that’s super natural. But I think there’s always a benefit in trying to be mindful of it and recognize how we can be more considerate and modest. Thanks again y’all, I hope you all have a great day 💛

@JessePrker Ooh I love REND’s work too! I had to write this thread to show some level of appreciation! That binder page would look super nice. The Psyduck is defs my fav, but I really love the feel of the Chimeco card too ☺️

REND is one of my favorite new #PokemonTCG artists and there is now enough illustration rares to fill a 9-page binder! 🎨 Their cards have this clean hyper-realism to them that I really like.
