In case you missed it, May 1 marks the beginning of the Pokémon Go Mega Festa Stamp Rally Event in Korea. The event runs all month long, and a Magikarp promo is available to those with an active Pokémon Go account! (Picture 1) However, the beginning of the event drew in massive crowds. Reports from patrons on the ground suggested over 100,000 people were in attendance. (Picture 2) Due to the overwhelming turnout, late last night Pokémon opted to cancel the distribution of the Mega Festa Magikarp promo. (Picture 3 - Pokémon’s cancellation announcement in Korean) The large crowds are likely related to resale prices of the promo Magikarp. Secondary sales of the card have already reached numbers like $100-200 usd for a card that was otherwise handed out for free. Really disappointing to see another Pokémon event cancelled by people looking to scalp a card that should be free 😞

These three cards come from the connected artwork by Aya Kusube. The cards were originally released in Japan as part of the Neo Premium File 3 set. They were then printed in English as part of the Neo Revelation set, shown in the original post. Kusube’s work often utilizes these small lines to define texture and shading. It accentuates the shadows and depth across the piece, not often seen from other Pokémon artists.

@SJWheeljack With how many people used to think Skarmory was a Gen 3 Pokémon because of how infrequently you’d find it in a normal play through of Silver/Crystal it kind of feels like it sometimes 😂

@JuiceProphet I ordered one of the light hoodies for two main reasons: - I liked the color the most out of all the items - The classic phrase and Pikachu on the sleeve felt like clean design choices, so I felt like I’d get a lot of use/wear out of it!

In 1999, Pokémon released a Winter Vacation, Holiday, New Year set of postcards. There were 5 of them in total, and all 5 were illustrated by the incredibly talented Kagemaru Himeno! (Picture 1) Kagemaru Himeno is a fan favorite Pokémon artist. Her work for the Pokémon TCG first appeared in the Jungle set, released in Japan 1997. Since then, she’s illustrated over 600 different cards for the TCG. Her catalog consists of a number of impressive and sought after cards. Of these include her cards from the “How I Became a Pokémon Card” series (picture 3), and the original Japanese Grimer from Team Rocket (picture 4). Himeno again is quite popular among fans. Her soft shading and vibrant colors often provide a sense of warm fuzzy comfort. She’s certainly one of my favorites!

Normalize not having to be an expert about everything in the collecting space. Too many people obsessed with trying to come off as an authority or some sort, acting like they know more than they do. People can and do sniff out the BS pretty quickly.
