Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs @sikorskiradek paid a visit to Italy. At the European University Institute in Florence, he delivered a lecture entitled “The Sources of Europe’s Strength,” devoted to the foundations of Europe’s strength in the context of current geopolitical challenges. The Minister also met with members of the Polish community at @EUI_EU, researchers from the Florence School of Transnational Governance, and representatives of the Italian political community.

Close 🇵🇱–🇷🇴 cooperation is key to Europe’s ability to effectively address strategic security challenges. 💬 This is why the talks between Deputy FM Ana Tinca of @MAERomania and Deputy FM @RKupiecki focused on how Poland and Romania can work to strengthen the resilience and defence capabilities of the #EU and @NATO. The organisation’s achievements and its future are the main topics of today’s conference marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of @CEI_Secretariat in Trieste 🇮🇹. #EU enlargement and sustainable development remain key priorities for Central Europe. Poland is 🇵🇱 represented at the conference by Deputy Foreign Minister @WTBartoszewski, who also met on its sidelines with his Serbian counterpart @stsecjovanovic.

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister @sikorskiradek spoke 📞 today with the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 @Bayramov_Jeyhun. During the conversation, Deputy PM Sikorski condemned the drone attack carried out in early March from Iranian territory against Azerbaijan and stated that such violations of international law are unacceptable. The ministers also discussed the security situation in the Middle East and the South Caucasus, as well as the possible political and economic consequences of the ongoing conflict.

💬 The European Union 🇪🇺 already has two such missions operating relatively close to the Strait of Hormuz. I personally believe, and I have said so, that it would be worthwhile to enter into a dialogue with the American side on hypothetical possible transformations of these missions, in line with the High Representative’s suggestion, for a time when peace has been restored but it will still be necessary to clear the massive bottlenecks on both sides of the strait. 💬 Europe and India have a lot in common. We now have a free trade agreement, India is a very important country of the so-called Global South, and Europe and India are among those actors that remain committed to upholding the principles of the United Nations and international law. Trade between us is also far smaller than it could be. Before today’s 🇪🇺 Foreign Affairs Council #FAC meeting in Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister @sikorskiradek met with EU Commissioner for Enlargement @MartaKosEU. The further development of foreign-language media and the launch of new language editorial offices in Poland, as well as support for and Poland’s role in Ukraine’s reconstruction, were the main topics of discussion.

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister @sikorskiradek took part yesterday in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Three Seas Initiative. The meeting, initiated by Croatia, which currently holds the #3SI presidency, provided an opportunity to discuss the geopolitical importance of the countries of the region in relations with third countries.

💬 My predecessor, Foreign Minister Józef Beck, when he concluded the treaty with Great Britain in 1939, travelled to London and also negotiated a British military loan for Poland. It was not denominated in PLN, but in GBP. I do not know what interest rate it carried. But I do know that he did not seek to use that loan to undermine Poland’s sovereignty, but to preserve it.
