Anchorage Police Bodycam Shows Man Armed with a Knife Charging Officer Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case said he is satisfied that an Anchorage Police sergeant acted appropriately when he shot and killed a man who was advancing toward him with a knife in Mountain View this fall. Police Sergeant James Dokken was cleared on Tuesday by the State Office of Special Prosecutions, which investigates officer involved shootings, for his use of deadly force against 24- year-old James Afuvai. Anchorage police released edited body camera footage and a summary of events on Tuesday. The incident happened on Sept. 29 when police say Afuvai made multiple calls to 911 asking for officers to respond. Afuvai tells dispatchers that someone is hurt, according to police. On another call, he said someone is shooting up the neighborhood, and on another call, that a person with a knife is threatening him. Police sent several officers to respond, including the Mobile Intervention Team, to deal with what they suspected might be a mental health issue. Case said Sergeant Dokken was alone when he initially staged in the area waiting for police back-up. When Dokken saw a man he thought was the caller approaching his patrol car, he got out of his patrol car to make contact. “He didn’t see a knife when he got out of the car. He didn’t identify as a threat, and it was an appropriate decision for him to get out of the car to make contact with that individual,” Case said. When Dokken recognized the man, later identified as Afuvai, was holding a knife and advancing toward him, he can repeatedly be heard on audio released by APD ordering the man to drop the knife. Case said Dokken shot at Afuvai when he was about 20 feet away. When asked why Dokken didn’t use less lethal means to try to stop Afuvai, the Chief said APD policy dictates there must be at least two officers present to use less lethal means, including one that has lethal as a back-up, but Dokken was alone at the time. One reason, according to Case, is that less lethal options don’t always work. Case said the department tracks the effectiveness of less lethal weapons and has found that tasers have about a 25% success rate in Alaska, in part, because they don’t perform well against bulky winter clothes. A Department of Justice study found that tasers were effective in reducing injuries to both officers and suspects.

OKC PD Traffic Stop Turns Into INTENSE Shootout! Man Fires At Officers During Chase Bodycam and dashcam video from a traffic stop that turned into a shootout with the Oklahoma City Police Department was released on Tuesday. Just before 1 a.m. on Oct. 31, officers pulled over 43-year-old Timothy Foster near Southwest 59th Street and May Avenue. Foster then got out of the car and refused to get back into the vehicle when officers asked. "This guy's not really complying," an officer said in the video. Eventually, Foster did get back into the car, but he drove off. A passenger jumped out of the car before the suspect sped away. Police said that Foster fired a gun out the window during the chase, and an officer returned fire. Foster eventually stopped at his house and ran inside. He then shot at officers from his home, and a shootout began between officers and Foster. "Foster remained in the house for over two hours before the OKCPD tactical unit made entry and located him inside. He had injuries from the shootout with officers and was transported to a local hospital," Capt. Valerie Littlejohn with the Oklahoma City Police Department said. Police said Foster was treated and released from a hospital and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center. He faces several charges, including four counts of assault with a deadly weapon on police officers and eluding police. No officers or bystanders were hurt, according to police.

According to White, dispatch received a call around 2:36 p.m. and officers arrived on scene quickly. The suspect was off-duty and was threatening to commit suicide, and was reportedly asking for what is known as suicide-by-cop. "Tragically we are not immune to mental crises. Our officers deal with this every single day," White said. White said that he was shooting in the air with a high-powered rifle, and the responding officers retreated to their vehicle. That's when the suspect walked to the back of the vehicle and opened fire, shooting it multiple times. One officer was shot in the leg and another in the thigh. SAPD Bodycam Shows Traffic Stop Turn Into A Shooting! The San Antonio Police Department has released a video of an officer shooting a suspect during a Nov. 7 traffic stop at the intersection of Padre Drive and Napier Avenue. Just after midnight, police say officer Oscar Espino saw the 42-year-old suspect Raul Ramirez commit a traffic violation at South Presa and South East Military Drive. Authorities say Espino recognized Ramirez's truck as one that had taken off from officers earlier. Espino then turned on his lights and tried to pull Ramirez over, but police say he sped up and tried to get away. Police then say Ramirez stopped at the intersection of Padre Drive and Napier Avenue and when Espino got out of his patrol car, Ramirez rolled down his window and pointed a gun at the officer. That's when police say officer Espino fired several shots at Ramirez, hitting him once Officers say they provided life-saving measures to Ramirez before EMS arrived and took him to the hospital with a non-life-threatening wound. A gun was found on Ramirez, according to police, and he was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and felon possession of a firearm Police say the investigation of the shooting is still ongoing and information could change.
