One can’t possibly fathom the amount of damage that Zelensky has caused by first triggering (knowingly) and then escalating this Polish 🇵🇱 - Ukrainian 🇺🇦 “history” war. Totally unbelievable. And what for? - to improve his ratings among the most nationalistic elements of the army who already hate him as an alien (together with Sirsky “the Russian”)? Quite unlikely. This whole mess will just reinforce their uncompromising stance towards supposed “non-Ukrainian” elements in power. - to find a scapegoat that will help him divert the rage when Ukrainians will discover that joining the EU for a country ravaged by more than 4 years of war is not going to be the “walk in a park” he promised? That worked perfectly so far but I strongly doubt Ukrainians will be fooled for much longer (keep an eye on Maidan). - to isolate Poland in Europe and position Ukraine as the main military pillar of defense on the Eastern front in the novel security architecture that he so eagerly wants to negotiate with Germany, France, and the UK as the US abandons the scene? Good luck with that… - or maybe to point at a “stab in the back” by the Poles when the “40 days” will be over and the war will be exactly at the same point with no prospects of ending it in sight, if not with hard concessions? Who’s gonna buy this one? Since the start of the war when relations between the two countries were at their highest ever, tensions between Poland and Ukraine have been building steadily, not just on past historical grievances (there is way more than just that). A spark was all that was needed to lighten the tinder box. Instead of pouring water, he decided to blow it up with a flamingo. Now, Ukraine has lost, probably permanently, its most valuable partner and the European security on the Eastern flank is in full jeopardy. Good luck in dealing with the European populists that will come to power in next year’s elections amid all this diplomatic mess. Great job!
