More than 20,000 Ukrainian children have been forcibly transferred and deported by Russia, as documented by international investigators, human rights organisations, and Ukrainian authorities. Hundreds or even thousands of kilometres away from their homes and families, they are subjected to so-called ‘educational programmes’ designed to erase their Ukrainian identity. Coordinated international action is needed more than ever to trace and return every child home.

Europe Day is a great moment to mark what we share — and we truly share so much. Historically, culturally, and by its values, Ukraine has always been part of Europe. This connection grows stronger every day through reforms, steady progress towards EU membership, and our common projects. But above all, it is our shared aspiration for a European future that unites us. Happy Europe Day! #EuropeDay2026 #ValuesWeShare
